Okay, one other thing: may have mentioned this before, but Lou mentioned at the banquet that NMU's AD selection had 2/3 candidates that had some favor for UAH. Forrest Karr at Fairbanks has been a proponent of UAH in the past, pushing for our CCHA bid and undoubtedly working on our behalf on the nWCHA front. [I say undoubtedly because I don't know it for sure, as I haven't emailed him this time through for his thoughts.] Sean Johnson was a finalist at UAH, and it's fairly safe to say that he was a strong second to Brophy. While Johnson isn't the hockey guy you might think in seeing him as a NoDak staffer, he does look favorably upon UAH, and he and Lou have had conversations.
Now davyd83 can chime in on this, but they did all their due diligence and on-campus interviews in April, only to have their president move on right at the first of May. In doing some reading tonight, I don't think the new president [an internal hire] was involved in the selection committee, so he's undoubtedly doing his due diligence. [I say undoubtedly because I haven't emailed him, either.]
No matter whether someone who looks favorably upon UAH or not gets the job, NMU is probably the best shot at busting up the UP schools as a voting bloc against UAH's nWCHA bid. I don't think it takes a Huntsville rocket scientist to realize that MTU, NMU, and LSSU are likely NO votes. Would a new AD be able to change a new president's mind about adding travel several hundred miles across the country? Maybe. I'll take a maybe.
