TV 19 - Simpsons Did It

My wife and I finished a couple of series over the weekend.

First, we finished Reacher on Amazon Prime. Even though this is the type of series that might generally be in my wheelhouse, I wasn't that impressed.

I've never read any of the Reacher books, but I did see one of the Tom Cruise movies based upon the character, so I'm generally familiar with the premise. As you would expect, there are lots of fights, and lots of sarcastic comments from Reacher. There were actually a couple of characters in the series that I really liked, but there were just inconsistencies about the main character that annoyed me enough that I'm not sure I'd ever watch any additional seasons. One example is that Reacher apparently finds himself frequently confronted by groups of 3-5 bad guys in the form of bikers, cowboys, nazis, cartel members, etc... He usually announces the bad things that are going to happen, then beats them all into submission without breaking a sweat.

There are plenty of scenes like that in this series. But then later we find him getting his azz kicked by some guy who looks like Seth Green. Stupid things like that.

It also has a bit of a made for tv movie feel about it in which the plot just sort of plods along for the first 90% of the show, then the main character pieces it all together in the last two minutes and wraps everything up.

The second series we finished was Everything's Gonna Be All White on Showtime. This series is pretty good, but suffers from a timing issue, namely that it came out about a year after Exterminate All the Brutes and attempts to tell the same story. They do a fine job with it, but they will suffer from the comparisons.

We also watched The Tinder Swindler. Felt like that would be appropriate Valentine's Day fare.

About the only way you can sum it up is to say, "wow." I'll give some props to the women who decided to try to take this guy down. They had to have anticipated how they would get crucified in social media. That, plus putting all of the details of your love life out there certainly took a lot of courage, probably coupled with significant anger.

Worth a watch. On Netflix

DiMaggio has spoken out about the Futurama debacle. He thinks they should be paid more, West and Sagal included, even though they've agreed to terms. He's held his ground and they moved on without him.

I won't make it a point to watch it as soon as possible but I am sure I will eventually. Disappointing that he wont be there to voice Bender (and numerous other characters he voiced). Wish Groening and Cohen would not have pursued this. It does not need to be rebooted or comeback or anything. Just let it be.

Tim Holt and his faithful Mexican companion "Chito", Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon(special fx are priceless)and a Popeye cartoon Sat mornings on TCM.

It's like a sore dick...ya can't beat it.

I hadn't seen South Park in 15 years and Dr. Mrs. put on S25 since we have some streaming thing or other now. 25.01 was funny. 25.02 was one of the best SP episodes ever.
