TV 19 - Simpsons Did It

Jamie Foxx normally nails it out of the park, but I tried his Netflix sitcom Dad Stop Embarrassing Me! and oh Lordy is it bad. I gave it 10 minutes and there's no way you could convince me to give it another try.

I really can't get over how unfortunate a name that is.

The Cretin Cretins?

Their mascot?

I'm pretty sure posting that ended your chances of seeking office in 20 years.

And reposting it ended mine, so I aint never gonna be President now.

That's one less thing to worry about.

I've seen a couple episodes of The Simpsons from this season. Overall, post season 15 I haven't watched too many.

On its own, it's okay. Not something I would tune in for every week, but it has some decent jokes. But it's impossible to watch and not remember it's the same show that's over two decades past its prime, and then it just looks terrible by comparison. In some ways it doesn't feel like the same show. Timing of the jokes is slightly off, characters appear to be more plug and play, not necessarily tied to a specific personality. Not to mention I don't think I'll ever get used to the new animation style, and that's over a decade old itself.

I don't think I have watched a single episode of the Simpsons since at least the season Ned's wife died. That was S11.

There was just no reason to watch the Simpsons once South Park started. It was 10x more clever and far more biting. I love Groening but the Gen X irony and sarcasm of his creations (Work is Hell, etc), which was liberating when I was 25, is cheap and misses the point. It's entertainment for people who are too cool to engage sincerely.

Fuck Bart. He grew up to vote for Dump.

I just assumed all that ratings stuff had been supplanted by actuals from cable and streaming metadata, and Nielsen was buggy whips.

But I also probably haven't watched a big 3 show in 30 years. Certainly not a news show. I am blown away by how much of America is still mired in that olde timey garbage.

And I am OLD. How much more out of touch must this seem to a 20-something.

Nielsen measures YouTube TV too. If you want to opt out they'll place a cookie on your computer. I use CCleaner so it erases the cookie. Now they know I've watched Law & Order a gazillion times.

It still matters for sports ratings at least.

It’s tough to capture the antenna users. I’m watching a streaming service or watching the local channels with antenna reception.
