TV 19 - Simpsons Did It

I am halfway through S2 of The Bear. I was not as big of a fan of S1 as the accolades it got, but so far for me personally S2 is kicking S1's ass. For me the story is better, the pacing is better, the character development is better, and Ayo Edebiri better get nominated for a GG and an Emmy.

I'm making my way through season 1 of Only Murders in the Building right now. I'd like to get through season 2 before I start something else. The Bear might jump to the top of the "something else" list.

Why is Only Murders rated TV-MA? There doesn't seem to be anything in it that would require that rating.

I would assume it is because of all the talk about types of death and sex. There is a bit of gore at the end of Season 1 into Season 2 but nothing bad.

Both of those shows have been wonderful and haven't cheated yet. I am very impressed by the integrity of the writing.

Season two of the bear was incredible

For the same reason the King's Speech was rated R based purely on the one scene where he curses with the headphones on?

Entertainment ratings are absurd, especially with how violence is treated in comparison to sex or language.

If you haven't already, go watch This Film is Not Yet Rated for more details on how the MPAA Ratings Board is staffed and how they operate. It's a joke. Even though each TV network rates its own content, they hire censors who take their cues from film.

Short answer - because Americans are prudes.

God forbid we see a pair of t!ts on TV though. :roll eyes: Shootings, blood, gore, all a-okay. But how dare some ankle or shoulder be shown for more than a passing glance.

Why did it have to be the puritanical Christians that sailed to the new world?

This. This Film is Not Yet Rated is fantastic and very informative.

I kinda wish the director Kirby (uh, word for male genitalia that is his last name that the board censors won’t let me use) or someone would do an updated version with some comparison to other ratings systems in entertainment (like the video games one).

I remember when my parents would bar me from watching things such as (iirc) the Helter Skelter series, but would let me watch the Tonight Show and SNL. God forbid parents be tasked with parenting and networks during PT or even later TV be able to air what they wish.

Parks and rec marathon on today, have it on in background. Forgot about this classic from Minnesota boy Ben, whose parents are meeting Leslie for first time:

“Well, they’re white people from Minnesota, So hockey, fishing, skiing, sailing and after a few drinks put on a Prince album. Don’t mention the Green Bay Packers or the State of Iowa.”

Started watching It's Always Sunny from the beginning. I've never been a regular watcher, but I'll catch the odd episode here and there. I've seen some people say that the first season is forgettable, or that they hadn't found their stride yet. While the characters certainly aren't what they would later become, and there's no Devito, three episodes in and they hit the ground running on the comedy. Everyone episode has been great in contrast to Seinfeld's painfully slow first season while they were still fleshing out characters.
