Travel 4: All Around the World Same Song

Just got back from a trip to the northwest for a graduation. And in that trip, visited Olympic and Glacier National Parks.

Both are incredible, and I lack a decent vocabulary of how beautiful they both are.

Instead I will remind you that national parks are all of ours, and you should go out and visit them if you can. Especially the remote ones during the off season. When we visited the parks, the lodges had not been open for more than a week, meaning demand and crowding was pretty minimal. Both parks had limitations to visit due to snow, but we still managed to see so much and still not see everything that we could have visited.

Go visit a national park. If you are north of 62, there's no excuse why you don't have your permanent pass to national parks.

Travel was my biggest passion in life, then I got dogs.

With my last baby passing after 14 years, I’m getting back in the game. My retirement account could be worth nothing in a year, we could get nuked in six months, I dunno. So I’m gonna start traveling.

Besides family stuff in Seattle this summer, I’m hitting up Stockholm/goteburg and Copenhagen. I’ve already been to Copenhagen, but my Swedish family will be in Stockholm and goteburg for some events and then going home to France via Copenhagen. So I decided to fly home from cph on the new direct to msp on delta

My girl passing broke my heart. Traveling will help

One thing I will say is that for those of you that have time frames of extended and unavoidable absences from your loved ones, cherish every moment when together and make every effort to stay in touch.

I love Minnesota with my every last fiber, but my family plays a large part. Nearly every family gathering (birthdays, holidays, sometimes just because - no event required) involves one aunt, my parents, brother and family, sister and family, two nephews and their families and my two sons) and we enjoy the company. It's not forced. I have missed out on those for several years running.

But my wife and I have made sure that while we are here in The Philippines and separated on both sides, that the very good friends we've made here remain a part our lives. Weekly visits just to say hi, weekend lunches, occasional barbecue or shared dinners, whatever. Heck we still have friends from when we met in Bahrain in 1996 that we still have contact with and have had reunions since.

It makes the distance we have feel less daunting and you can't put a price on friendship and love.
