Travel 4: All Around the World Same Song

Another beautiful breezy evening in Stockholm. Truly my favorite city in the world at this point.

However, waiting at a crosswalk, a convertible just went by and it had confederate flag license plates
I often found many Europeans are ignorant of the racial connotations of the confederate flag, it's just cool a rebellion, anti-authority flag to them.

I’d agree

I was unaware of the (former?) hated of polish people?

Went to vasa museum today, literally one of the most famous museums in the world (and coolest, frankly) and while reading all the description placards for the ship, there is this gem:

“The polish enemy- despised and humiliated

A polish nobleman is trapped under the cat head. He has been forced to crawl under a bench and vasas crew would see him when they sat on the toilet, a double humiliation”

Google "The Deluge".

I remember, about 20-25 years ago as soccer really started getting global discussion online, seeing photos of various supporters groups in places like Germany, Spain and others with a confederate flag here and there. Inevitably Americans would comment essentially “WTF?!?” and there being bewildered European responses completely unaware of the racist connotations. Surprisingly, it was usually English people that could back up the argument, most English people at least had some knowledge about the confederate flag.

TIL I learned that when I fly back from Dublin I go through US Immigration at Dublin International Airport. By the time I get to the lounge for some food I am technically on American Soil! Suck on that TSA!
