Top Chef Las Vegas

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

I bet Ilan and Sam and the other two cooks try to shave his head and then the producers use some great editing to make it look like they just felt making a shave head pact.

That's when Top Chef lost all credibility for me, even though I still liked to watch it.

What's funny is that Fabio asked Marcel about getting hit by the bottle or something like that (I started watching during Season 3 and have seen very few episodes of Season 2) and he got REALLY defensive and mean, and commented something like "Why don't we talk about x and x and x bad things that happened to me. No. I'm not going to talk about it." My favorite, though, was when he said to Fabio, "I'd say something about your season but, oh, I didn't watch it." Haha. I will say that he's got his "little twat" [(c) Stefan] reputation for a reason :p

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

He was really ganged up on everyone and was screwed out of winning that season by some mass stupidity by the judges. I mean everything Tom said after basically made it sound like he knew it was a mistake to give the win to Ilan.

And his whole season while he was an ***, he was a real team player...often helping people out when things went bad even when they were cruel to him.

I think he cultivated that image of himself afterward.

I thought it was oddly funny that when Fabio started to ask him about how it seemed he got in fights with everyone, Marcel got really defensive and insulting toward Fabio.

It seemed to me that even though he did act as team player during challenges, he came off as a complete *** to the viewers because of his attitude during the one-on-one interviews that they show throughout the episodes.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

I have not seen any episodes from Season 2 but it would not have bothered me is Marcel's mane had been shaved. :)

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

I think there are certain "character arcs" with the selective editing that are designed to keep everyone interested week to week. While Jen may be on a emotional downslope now, I can see her "bouncing back" just in time to make the final and even win it. After last year's Hosea fiasco, I think Jen gives the series both a female winner and a serious chefs' pedigree to restablish some lost credibility in the food world.

I think Kevin is the most consistent chef, but consistency doesn't always win.

I think the Voltaggio brothers would make a great 'family feud' final, but I think picking Jen gets them out of that potential quagmire.

I agree with all of this. I really see it coming down to Kevin, Jen, and either of the Brothers Voltaggio.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Robin is finally gone, though I was really worried Eli screwed up worse and she'd live to see another day.

What a nice surprise, I haven't run into Nigella on tv for quite some time. She had a cooking show on "E" (I think) many years ago on Sunday mornings and I just loved it. I would say she pioneered the extreme close-ups of the work being done on the board. The tv production style of Giada is a copy of what Nigella did years ago. Maybe they both used the same producer.

I've seen her on early in the morning on Food Network. Usually one of the earliest shows during the "In the Kitchen" block.

The next few weeks should be good.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Kevin and the Brothers V are the big favorites for the finals. I would love to see Jen get a wake up call and push her way back into the mix. (Where is Eric Ripert when she needs him?)

And how odd that after the early season brouhaha betwenn Mike I. and Jen, there was the individual clip saying she missed him. When I first saw it, I thought she was talking about a boyfriend back home.

Honestly don't see Eli making the finals, but he has come on strong in the QFs, but yet to establish himself in the Elimination Challenge.

Farewell Robin. You are annoying, but you did outlast 2/3 of the field.

Didn't they have 4 chefs in the finals one Year? Or was that Project Runway?

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

True, but usually it's only been three cooking the final meal.
Fabio made it to New Orleans and lost before the final, too.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Glad the Robin crap can finally end, but I would have liked to see more cooking in this episode.

Also, I'm sick of these Quick Fire's that don't mean a thing. The Top Chef Cookbook? Who cares? I like it better when winning the Quick Fire gives some type of advantage in the elimination challenge.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Glad to see Robin gone, but I thought Eli was toast last night. I actually liked the concept behind Jen's dish, but she really failed in the execution. The plastic sword was fun [Sword in the Stone is one of my favorite childhood movies :)].

Comment in the preview for next week's episode: "Kevin makes food I make on my day off." I think that was Mike V. DOOSH. He really makes me angry. Have some class, seriously.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Stephanie, Richard, Lisa, & Antonia were finalist in season 4 in Puerto Rico.

They always have two episodes in the final city. In season four, the four of them made it to the Puerto Rico, but Antonia didn't make it to the finals. In season two, four of them made it to the final destination, but only Marcel and Ilan made it to the finals. Season three had four make it to the final destination, but only three made it to the finals, and they followed that model in season four and five too.

I would like to see them mix it up and have two people go on to the finals instead of three, set up a nice Mike V. and Kevin finals which they seem to be foreshadowing.

Go back to the end of judges table when Mike I was the one that was kicked off, if you have it on DVR. There was something going on between those two when they made the decision, so much so, that Gail sort of gave this look of surprise when she saw it.
