Top Chef Las Vegas

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Oh good, one more week.

Restaurant wars next week - not a big fan of that challenge.

I don't think anyone is. Hopefully one of the top 4 doesn't get auffed.

When I saw Ash's plate, it screamed to me "sauce". But Laurine should have gone.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

You would have thought so considering her food was compared to cat food!

And Jen's food was compared to a hairy armpit and she did WELL :p

Seriously, the Robin drama has GOT to stop. I don't remember anything quite as annoying from past seasons. Loved the ribbing Eli got from one of the Brothers V toward the end of the show, though. "Did you get to second base?" :)

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

The shaved/hairy armpit comment was about the difference between American and Euro pinot noir and not referring to anyone's food.

I wish they'd play up more of the "Eli as the universal little brother" element rather than the "OMG Robin is soooooo annoying!!!11!!" element.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

No surprise--the Top 4 are the Top 4.

Ash was the doomed by Tom's comments and his I'm not worthy speech last week.

RW is fun, but can cause the loss of a front runner. Just hope, if one of the Top 4 falters Mike I isn't the replacement.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

As much as Mike I is riding coattails, he does take risks and seems like a fundamentally better chef than Laurine or Robin or most who have gone home. He really only had one colossal screw up, that salad or whatever he made when the Voltaggio on his team won.

The top 4 are the top 4, and I think Eli and Mike I are the next tier. Everyone else just seems "meh."

Both Robin and Laurine deserve to be sent home. The big question left, in my mind, is do the Top 4 make it to the finals? If not who sneaks in?

Then we can begin the debate, who wins?

Restaraunt wars could protect Robin and Laurine one more week (Laurine looked like she was the front of house for 1 team in the preview).

Jen could mis-step as she seems to lack confidence more and more as the contest goes on, but she still makes good food. At some point her lack of confidence may cause her not to trust her excellent judgement.

Jen's lack of confidence is driving my wife nuts. Probably another woman who has enough to take it all, except between the ears, back in that lateral area, right next to acid balance, and underneath meat cooking areas of the brain.

At first, I was put off by her "arrogance"- but once it was backed up by her food- that totally went away. Now I'm starting to want to see that again.

I'm pulling for Jen and Bryan.
Kevin is the other obvious choice. (Do you think Blais gave him some hints?)

They judge only by the most recent dish which is unfortunate because one bad dish and they're gone. I will be surprised if the top 4 end up being the top 4.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Mike I. is the obvious choice for who has the best chance of jumping in should one of the big four falter, considering the only time he has been in the bottom of a quickfire or an elimination was for that Greek salad he did. Kevin's the only one who hasn't been in the bottom at all so far.

I call shenanigans on them ACTUALLY doing that. Sure, they SAY they don't take previous dishes into account, but I think that's absolute bull. You can tell sometimes that there are favorites. I really do think that they should go to a blind judging format to keep things more fair, but that cuts down on the drama factor a little so, there you go.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

That was a nerve-wracking elimination. Tom's blog made me think we'd be losing Jen this week after the way her team performed. I'd rather Robin leave than Laurine, but no big loss.

I wonder what weird thing Natalie Portman will make them do. I know she's a vegetarian, but there's no way it can top Zooey Deschanel on Top Chef Masters, where they had to work around her being a vegan that can't eat gluten or soy.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

I'm glad they atleast showed whichever ahole brother it was cursing on multiple occasions after flipping out on Robin for using A curse word. If she had touched one of the other 3 chef's dishes after they said no, all 3 would have come down on her big time. Total BS. And screaming Relax Relax Relax when she was actually fairly calm and obviously ahole brother was not was ridiculous. I was hoping she'd actually win because that would burn the others so bad.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

The quickfire was really interesting. Unusual, impractical, but interesting.

Laurine was crap running the front of the house but given what was going on in the kitchen, I can't blame her. She did deserve to go home, though.

That chocolate ganash and spearmint dessert looked and sounded AMAZING.

I thought it was great how the losing team, for once, wasn't surprised to be the losing team and just took everything in stride.

I also thought it was strange that the blue team (Mission?) didn't elect an executive chef. Bad move. And the name Revolt? STUPID STUPID STUPID. I get it, but what they meant by it is not the first thing that most people are going to think of when they walk in/walk by.

Yeah, I thought it was funny - "it's like Revolution."

No, the root word is 'revolve.'

Agreed on the quickfire.

I like Jen more than Laurine, but Jen botched 2 of the 3 main dishes badly, it was a very amatuerish performance; she realy should have gone. It's obvious the judges are keeping her around because of her past performances. Laurine did suck as well, but not just as bad as Jen.

So what percent is the likelyhood Robin get axed next week? 90%?

I love that Bryan refused Mike V's offer on part of the winnings because of the way he treated Robin in the kitchen. Mike V really didn't have to get on her like that. Plus he didn't have to tell the judges she cooked up his recipe. He already had it bagged. He stock is falling in my eyes. His maturity level is a bit low considering he has kids that are 9 and 5. Set a good example. Hopefully Bryan will not get swept up in his brother's irritating tactics and keep a level head.

Maybe everyone likes rooting for the good guy, but this competition is about performance. It's okay to be arrogant if you back it up and Mike V backs it up week in and week out.

Robin and Laurine are guppies and should have been gone long ago (Robin's poisonous drunken prawns on the ranch and Laurine's deadly sin donuts and bacon quickfire come to mind). With the crop of amazing young up-and-comers like the Voltaggios, Kevin, and Jennifer (AAA 5 diamonds, Mobil Awards, Michelin Stars, James Beard Award nominations and wins), I want to see innovation, skill, and COMPETITION -- not guppies who wilt under pressure.
