Top Chef Las Vegas

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

No surprise that Ashley went home over the Voltaggio.

I can't believe they criticized Ash for riding Michael V's coattails this week, but when Mike Isabella did the same thing a few weeks ago there wasn't a peep.

I actually find it amusing how Robin is driving people crazy.

Ash's problem was that he outright admitted it while basically saying Michael is a better chef than he is. I think it was probably a given that Kevin and Jennifer would be in the top four. I did enjoy Mike I. during the commercial segment where he was sitting there with an exasperated look on his face as Robin chattered on and on and on and on. :D

Too bad Ashley's going home. She had been doing a lot better, but one bad dish will always do you in. Looks like next week's episode will be filled with THE DRAMA!

Though I do continue to hate episodes where they're split into teams of two.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

I'm confused.

Ash basically sets the table and stays?

Eli does something to the the pasta thingy (can't remember what it was) after Ashley makes it - and because he's afraid to grill a prawn - and he stays? Weird.

I agree totally. And they are supposed to both get their points of view across in the dishes. In really, in a kitchen, there is the alpha leader and all the rest, with maybe a couple sub-alpha leaders. I really can't criticize Ash for being the assistant when Mike took the initiative, but in recognizing Mike was a vastly better chef than him and admitting it outloud to the judges, why should he have stayed?

At this point it's pretty clear the brothers, the blonde self doubter and the bearded guy from Atlanta will be the final 4. They ought to ditch the rest and have those 4 cook off for the rest of the season, with a points per week like system (like the episodes of Top Chefs Masters) deciding the winner.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Richard Blais from TC4 is competing on an episode of Iron Chef America (I don't know how long ago this episode is from), and one of his sous chefs is Eli from this season's TC.

I actually notice this happening every now and then. I saw Arian from TC5 working for someone on Iron Chef a while back, and Mark from TC4 was working for someone on an episode I watched about a month or so ago.

Just makes it a little more interesting for me. :)

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

There's an easy solution to this stupid two person team concept: the team that submits the worst dish goes home - not just one person but the entire team. That way, both will be darn sure to be involved from start to finish, and we won't see this repetitive nonsense of people doing little to nothing, dodging the criticism, and staying on the show.

Great idea. And it would create a TON of drama, with both chefs fighting to get thier point of view across. That's what Bravo is after anyway.

The ulimate solution is no team challanges - but that is not dramatic and not what Bravo wants.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Also, I hope we get better judges than Tyler Florence from here on out. I like how the only comment they showed someone make about him was that Kevin has seen him on TV. Who's next? Guy Fieri?

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Richard Blais v. Mario Batali (from 2006) battling on Iron Chef on Food Network right now. Is that Eli from this season as his Sous Chef?

Okay - getting a bit burned out by Top Chef. Not impressed with Robin and the focus on her. Thought Laurine should have gone home this week, given how much they trashed her food (looking forward to reading Tom's blog). Happy to see Kevin shining though. And I still like Eli.

I can't stand Restaurant Wars.

Edit - Tom's blog explains their decision very well.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

This week's rankings basically went the way they've been established all season. Kevin, the Brothers V, and Jennifer are the top, Mike I. and Eli hover around the middle, and Laurine, Ash, and Robin suck. That made me laugh. :)

Restaurant wars looks like it will be as irritating as usual, though Bryan yelling at Robin should be fun.
