TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

ESPN is about to report that Tiger will take an "indefinite" break from golf.

this was in one of the british papers this morning...

so what will he do.
1) say nothin to nobody until he shows up at the masters?
2) do a cry tour with baba waha or oprah?

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

Dammit he better break the majors record, that's all he's really got going for him now.

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

He won't get it now. Insert fork, he's done.

he only plays a handful anyway before augusta. andy williams, bay hill, crosby, those stupid two WGC. if he could get out of all of them he would. then after augusta he takes off a month and comes back for tpc. byron is dead now so nothing to play after that until jack's event. then the open. then the other open... and we're into august.

so he'll do majors only and practice.

she'll leave and he won't be around and nobody will know what happens(ed).

What's interesting is that Jack was able to accomplish what he did against what I could describe as relatively tougher competition while married and with a family. Not to suggest he was perfect, but everything suggests he was always a very good family man and given that perhaps it makes his accomplishments all the more impressive?

Very impressive. He evidently didn't need the "Tiger release" while he was competing.

wife, kids, millions... some should have it so lucky

My thoughts... gotta wonder what else is out there? I bet he's back mid-summer 2010. The only thing he can do right now is perpetuate the scandal. He'll tunnel just long enough so that he's redeemed by a news magazine or Oprah.

you all know what barbara nicklaus did in the first moments of her honeymoon, right??;)

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

Cribbage?

jack was invited to play pine valley... and no women are allowed on the grounds. so on their way to nyc, barbara sat in the car on the side of a nj road while jack played golf then enjoyed some time with the guys in the clubhouse after the round.

A minor disgreement here in the midst of our pre-Christmas bashing. With the growth of the college game and the conditioning and "shot coaches" around these days, I would argue there are many more great golfers out there than ever before. It's just that Tiger's so much better, we don't notice it. A few years ago Jack played the first two rounds of a major with Tiger (they hadn't played together in a while) and he said "this guy is playing a different game from the rest of us."

Go through the list of great golfers who were supposed to start an "era" of competition with him. None have. Singh, Duvall, Mickelson. All great. None consistently in his league. "Lefty's" a tremendous, one of the all time greats, golfer. He's got 3 majors. Tiger has 14! No competition.

Don't forget Sergio.

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.

Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.

By the time he's done searching his soul, he'll eligible for the Champions' Tour! :D

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

My first thought when coming here was that Jack's record might now be out of reach.

Even Tiger won't be able to block out the embarassment of this debacle going forward. For how private he is, he'll feel more naked than a couple of his mistresses are in their skin flicks.

Got to agree with Old Pio here. The sheer number, and proportion, of truly outstanding golfers is amazing right now (and they all are playing with the same equipment ... just like always). Sure the equipment is very different from Jack's prime time, but so are the courses ... some of which simply could not have been played with the old equipment.

One other point is that Jack did not perform in the time of massive "media" (I use the term lightly) intrusion into the personal lives of celebrities. I do believe he was a great family man (and I also believed that about Tiger Woods until a few weeks ago). Jack could have cheated on his wife while on tour and nobody would have talked about it had they known. E.g., compare JFK's coverage with Bill Clinton's. And we know some of the historical greats were definitely party animals. Walter Hagen anyone?

I've been around tournament golf for longer than I care to admit and I don't think this will end Tiger's golf career (endorsements, maybe). In fact, once he resolves this either by picking up the pieces and putting his family back together or by divorcing and moving on, I'll predict that he comes back stronger than ever. He might even have fewer distractions given fewer endorsements and not having to spend so much time maintaining a false image. He has the mental capabilities to put his family back together (Elin will have to find out if he has the physical capabilities!:D) and he has the mental and physical capabilities to rip the tour apart if he gets back on track with a deeper focus. I don't think he'll be done until the majors and overall wins records are firmly in his pocket. I agree with a quiet arrival at the Masters after a lot of practice ... they are used to covering up controversies!;)

I could also see one warmup tournament before that in Europe or Asia to get the initial media circus out of the way. This announcement might be as much "get off my back" as anything else.

Sorry for going on so long.

Tigress is different all-right:eek:

I disagree that Tigress will come back stronger than ever. How could he? How could anybody after this kind of debacle? He's got major issues to deal with as far as I can see including substance abuse which will bring him down quicker than Elin will. At half strength Tigress is better than most but that, probably is about all we can expect to see from him. It's all over for Tigress but the apologists and enablers will be out in full force to defend and prop this guy up. It should be fun to watch. Can't wait for the Oprah soft-ball interview:eek:
