The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

It's a mess here. Looks to be at least a foot on the ground already and it's still coming down strong.

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

You call this a blizzard? WEAK. This isn't even enough snow to justify getting to work late, let alone working from home.

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

How goes the annual Beacon Hill/Suffolk snow removal, the ones where people dig out and defend their cars? :D

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

We have about 8 inches (and 3 feet at the end of the driveway where the plow trucks plowed us in). It's still definitely blizzarding with expectations of 1-3" per hour until later this afternoon. I don't have to work today, but that means I don't get paid. :(

Forecast here in Allentown was 4-8". We got 3-4". Yet another overblown storm.

Roads were mostly cleared at 7AM. Highways were fine.

Must be because Rendell is no longer in office.

And because the Iggles are no longer playing football! :D

We got about 3" here in Happy Valley - first "significant" snow of the winter.

Forget about seeing the traffic across the river, I can barely see the river.

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

Thundersnow in Mass.
I heard a couple of good claps of thunder earlier this morning but it was snowing too heavy to see any lightning. The weather guy showed several strikes on his tracker.

We've easily gotten 24-30" of snow here (just northeast of New Haven). Almost no wind which is a good thing. The snow that's fallen since around 8 am has been a bit wetter and heavier than they were predicting... there's a really nice ice pack at the top of my driveway. :(

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

Drove home from class yesterday in what the weenie Detroit weather guessers referred to as a "storm". Granted, we got a few inches and the roads were a little messy (trucks were slow getting out), but things were fine by rush hour this morning.

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

We're closing in on 2' up here in Southern New Hampshire. I'm on my own for shoveling today. Will definitely have to go out again at 4ish and then probably about 7 or 8. The storm is supposed to be seriously diminished overnight, so hopefully I won't have to shovel again in the morning.

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

It looks like it stopped here even though I saw on the news earlier that it would snowing till about 9pm. I wonder if we're going to get more bands of snow throughout the afternoon and early evening. I'm going to venture outside to see how well the plow did in my parking lot to see if I need to clean out my spot any more. My car is in a garage across the street and I don't want to go get it if I'm going to have shovel it out again later.

y'all are in a hole right now. heavy bands west of you in newton. it'll fill shortly.

just saw a dude come in my driveway with a plow on his truck. cleared me out for $25. money well spent.

right now, FLA is the only state of the 50 that doesn't have snow cover.

Yeah, it just started up again. The plow guy is plowing out the lot but my spot has not been cleared. At this rate, my car may stay in that garage till the weekend.

Probably have a foot of fresh powder, plowing was easy as it was light fluffy stuff. Still snowing though

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

I don't really consider the snow on the peaks of mountains/volcanos "snow cover", though I suppose it technically is. As far as I'm concerned, snow cover is something you have to plow. :p

Hm, Snow Cover sounds to me like snow that covers the ground.

Snow you have to plow sounds like Plowable Snow to me.

Oh, they do (plow). You ever been up there? There's a serious amount of buildings associated with the observatories.

No, I haven't been. Someday hopefully.
I know about the observatories and I know what you mean. I guess I'm just thinking that it is like saying there is snow cover in Colorado, in July because there is snow at the high altitudes. Yeah, technically it is correct, but its not really giving an accurate description of what the weather is really like in the state of Colorado.
