Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

Its the amount of energy in the storm, that he(the weather guesser) is comparing it to, not the winds. We have 3 or 4 inches at my house, whoopee freakin doo

Just checked my barometer, 28.8 is pretty low

Apparently the official barometric pressure was 28.41, which according to my local weather guesser makes it equalivalent to a strong Cat 2 or weak Cat 3 hurricane

Not a lot of snow in DC area (nothing here yet, but they're closing schools early in anticipation). I'm supposed to get 2-4", but my Mom in NJ and sons in MA/NH will be getting the brunt of the storm.

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

I laughed when I read that parts of the South got 2-4" of snow and among the issues with the storm, there were reports of abandoned cars in Nashville. Really? Get a couple inches of snow and you abandon your car?

Last night the forecast was 2-4" here. This morning was 3-5". I'm sure by 6PM the forecast will be up to 4-8 or 6-10". And we'll end up with either a foot or a dusting.

Edit: Not even waiting for 6....just sent an alert...updated forecast is for 4-8" here, 8-12" in York and southern Cumberland counties. Woohoo!

Well, what do you expect them to do, drive in it??????!?!?!?!:eek::eek:

Forecast is currently saying 8"-12" here in NYC.

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

Forecast for Northeast I just saw: Boston - 1-2 feet, NYC - 6-10", Manchester - 6-12", Burlington - 2-4", Syracuse - 6-10". I just hope it doesn't all come in a few hours during the day tomorrow as that will make it tough to get in the driveway tomorrow night.

Per The Weather Channel...

Tonight's low for Atlanta, GA: 19.

Tonight's low for Houghton, MI: 20.

THAT SHOULD NEVER, EVER HAPPEN.

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

I have an uncle who lives in Atlanta. People down there are quire vexed by the weather they've had so far this winter.

Well it wouldn't be a problem if they had a way to deal with it. I doubt they have very many trucks to plow or dump sand/salt.

I saw photos of Atlanta area roads, it was covered in 2 inches of ice :D People in the North have county and state authorities to take care of the snow and ice.

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

We got a few inches of snow today, and didnt have any plows on the road. Im proud to say I didnt abandon my car.

You say that like Marquette County ever plows. Don't they just usually drop salt and sand on it and hope for the best?

Friday night in South Range, I'd say we got 18", and that's guessing conservatively. It was unreal.

Buncha pansies!

Took me an extra half hour to get home. Just had to go slow and steady.

Going to be interesting here. We're supposed to start seeing the white stuff @5AM, so the morning commute shouldn't be impacted...the evening commute will be a bear though. It'll be interesting if schools shut down in anticipation of what *might* happen. No one wants to be the guy who canceled school and then the snowstorm missed :p

Then they should move to the DC area. We do that lots of times!!

I remember our principal did that one time. We were supposed to get a foot, so he phoned it in the night before - we wound up with about an inch. After that, he always waited until morning to make the call. :p

Thundersnow in Mass. All schools in my area already closed, no snow has fallen as of yet

I should turn on the radio to listen. :D Less than 1/2 inch here in the city, but a bit slippery on the sidewalks.
