The "Super League" press conference is now live.

Re: The "Super League" press conference is now live.

I believe they were doing the best they could with the budgets available to them. How strong would your program be, what would you have if you were in a smaller market, with limited sponsorship dollars and a much more limited ticket buying base (say 2500-3000 per night instead of 11,000) and didn't never had the Ralph $$$ to help?
They would probably be in a similar situation as they were from 1988 to 1996.

Let's see, UND came from a 6067 seat built with student fees rink. They'd be in there, with it full.
Before that UND had an unheated quanset with a sheet of ice with chicken wire instead of glass.

North Dakota built a program that could stand on its own long before Mr. Engelstad built an arena.

But keep making excuses about why other programs haven't been serious about their futures.

During the early 90's, UND's barn was pretty empty. It shows that other programs can build to have what UND has. It only took 3 years of winning to fill up the old Ralph.

Yup. I've said it here before: Winning, more than anything, puts butts in seats.

Get serious about winning and go forward from there.

I really do see this as BSU's opportunity to return to getting autobids and NCAA births. They're in "program building" mode. This is a great opportunity for them.

Give me a break, UND would not be the dominate money grabbing program they are today if it wasn't for the construction of the new Ralph in 2001. Without the nazi palace, UND would probably be willing to see how the Final Five went at the X because UND wouldn't have a facility worthy of a conference tournament on its own campus.

Classic case of being handed keys to a Cadillac and then pretending to have earned it all by myself. UND has built a great tradition through out their history, but they have been very fortunate to receive what they have. It's unfortunate many of their fans forget that. True hockey fans are concerned of the unintended consequences on college hockey that are yet to be discovered out of the realignment taking place.

1959, 1963, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1997, 2000. <-- A contining pattern of building to excellence.

If UND was "handed the keys to a Cadillac" she must've been a '59.

And yet with that cadillac, UND is going through its longest championship draught since the 1970s...

Great point. I really do hope that the "left behinds" can find a way to survive in this new College Hockey landscape.

But what will those be? The doomsayers speak of program failures because of conference changes. Others see this as an opportunity for new programs because the conference log jam is now broken. There will probably be some of both, some failure, some new programs. But change always has been and always will be.

Tech fan talkin' dry spells. Ya can't make it up.
My team has been irrelevant since the day Tim Watters was hired, with the exception of 2006-2007 when they were a few different results away from making the tournament...the fact that you think your programs recent success has nothing to do with a gigantic donation from a wealthy alumnus is just absurd. Granted Dean Blais is equally responsible for the resurrection but I don't think Hakstol does as well as he has without the Nazi Palace.

Recent?
1959, 1963, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1997, 2000.
Hak built from Blais, who built from Gino, who built from Barry Thorndycraft, who built from Bob May, who started from what Glenn "Red" Jarrett and Cal Marvin dreamed.
And yes, there was much other help along the way, but let's start where it started.
The REA donation didn't hang a 1959 banner retroactively.

UND fan being a complete *******. Ya can't make it up.
You got your little league, **** off.

Yeah! Leave this thread about teams in a new conference to fans of teams that aren't in the new conference!

Oh! Now I get it, just start winning! Its so genius, I can't believe no one has thought of it before!

Why is North Dakota just sitting around on their duffs for the past 11 years? Why don't they just go win the National Championship?

Re: The "Super League" press conference is now live.

How, pray tell, is that similar to the situation North Dakota currently finds themselves in?

I never said the legal position of both schools is the same, thank you for trying to make a counter argument to my non-argument. My position has been clear in other threads that cover this issue: If the NCAA is worried about imagery, using a tribe of N.A. as mascots, and racism towards those people; then approval from the tribes shouldn't matter. The imagery is there whether its approved or not. The racism is there whether the tribe approves of it or not. Basically, if the reasoning for getting approval (that some may be offended by the nickname and its use) is enough to warrant approval, should approval even be necessary? The problem is that the NCAA, despite attempting to appear PC by making the tribes vote and ultimately leaving them holding the scapegoat card, is too scared of the legal and financial burdens of taking on the "big" schools like FSU that use N.A. imagery for their mascot. /rant.
