The "Super League" press conference is now live.

Re: The "Super League" press conference is now live.

SCSU will survive. I just find it troubling that a few dip****s think it is funny that there will be smaller programs who may be forced to cut their programs.

Not if they change their name to the "Fighting Spirit" since the Spirit lake tribe is unopposed to the usage of the sioux name. I really think that's what UND should do, then they can keep roughly the same name, the logo, and most of their honor. I have been pretty vocal about my stance that unless the NCAA wants to ban all N.A. nicknames, they shouldn't be able to ban only ban one or two. I see it as more of an insult to college hockey that they would attack one of our more powerful schools but won't touch FSU.
The staff review committee noted the unique relationship between the university and the Seminole Tribe of Florida as a significant factor. The decision of a namesake sovereign tribe, regarding when and how its name and imagery can be used, must be respected even when others may not agree.[16] ”

The Seminole Tribe of Florida officially sanctions the use of the Seminole as Florida State University’s nickname and of Chief Osceola as FSU's mascot. Max Osceola, the chief and general council president of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, has stated that he regards it as an “honor” to be associated with the university.[16]

Some members of the Seminole Tribe of Oklahoma, among them activists David Narcomey and Michael Haney,[17] opposed FSU's use of the Seminoles mascot and name. In addition, general council member of the Seminole nation of Oklahoma David Narcomey stated, speaking on his own behalf:
“ I am deeply appalled, incredulously disappointed ... I am nauseated that the NCAA is allowing this 'minstrel show' to carry on this form of racism in the 21st century. ”

In 2005, Jennifer McBee, the Oklahoma Seminole tribe's attorney general, stated that the council had taken no official position on the FSU issue.[16] Despite the individual comments of some members of the Oklahoma Seminoles, Ken Chambers, principal chief of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma told The Palm Beach (Florida) Post in August 2005 that he had no objection to Florida State University using the Seminoles as a nickname and symbol, reversing the earlier public position of the Oklahoma tribe's spokesperson.[18] In July 2005, the Seminole Nation General Council, the legislative body for the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, voted 18-2 not to oppose the use of Native American names and mascots by college sports teams.

How, pray tell, is that similar to the situation North Dakota currently finds themselves in?

The rhetoric coming from the fans left behind provides the entertainment.

Don't be so melodramatic. It's only funny that SCSU will lose their program.

of course its entertaining to an a55hole like you...just go away jackwad. DU will be irrelevant again in 15 years just like it was 15 years ago. Enjoy the basement, since we all know your fans won't attend games without "name" schools visiting. God knows Minnesota-Duluth, Miami-Ohio and Nebrask-Omaha have that name recognition your fans die for...

Ah, so you think that this will be positive for Lake Superior and Ferris? You think that Mercyhurst and Robert Morris could put more people in their seats? I have no doubt that NMU and Bemidji and St Cloud will be able to maintain their present levels, but there could be trouble for some of the smaller CCHA schools no doubt.

You know, there are people who are concerned about their programs. For some of those programs, those fears may be somewhat unfounded, but for some they are very real and have basis in fact.

If they are concerned about programs now, why weren't they before? Shouldn't they have been building a self-sustaining program all along? What were they doing instead?

You make it sound like schools in Michigan are just rolling cash? Have you been paying attention to the ****ty economics of Michigan and the drastic cuts to universities statewide? Not every school in the country has access to a billionaire or can convince their state legislature to build them a new arena.

No, Never said that. Just the opposite.

I see it now and I agree. But you know there are bound to be a few in every crowd. They're kinda like the kids on the playground who laugh at the little kid that got knocked over by the big kid. Same mentality. Same maturity.

Roll back the clock a decade or so. The economy was roaring. What were those programs doing then? Neither Rome nor North Dakota Hockey was built in a day.

Hope things come out alright for the CCHA teams. If NMU ends up with the WCHA again I plan on making the trip out to Marquette this October. Any recommendations on a place to stay in town? Any good waterfront hotels?

Isn't that the main reason all the leftover fans are claiming some programs will fold? Without the NCHC teams, the leftover schools won't be drawing as big of attendance, either.

I think Michigan Tech's issue is losing the Final Five check, not who goes to Houghton...

I believe they were doing the best they could with the budgets available to them. How strong would your program be, what would you have if you were in a smaller market, with limited sponsorship dollars and a much more limited ticket buying base (say 2500-3000 per night instead of 11,000) and didn't never had the Ralph $$$ to help?
