The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

True, but we know who won't be ranked and have a decent idea of who will
But we have seen some shockers over the years....and we will never know what goes on in the smoke filled room ! That final ranking is left an untold mystery !

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

The NESCAC has an impressive SOS without a doubt, but not as good as the W's from top-to-bottom.

Only because they have twice as many teams. I could say they have 10 teams in the top 50% of all DIII hockey, while the ECEC-W only has 5.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Trinity's OOC was tenuous at best. Then they lost to an unranked team in the NESCAC semis. Downfall.

I still think there was inconsistency in how Trinity was handled last year. They're #1 the last public ranking. The schedule numbers didn't get that much worse because of one loss. Plus most of the teams around them lost one more game too. You can explain to me how Trinity was always overrated and probably not worthy of a spot, but you can't explain to me how the NCAA ranks them #1 one week and then just drops them off the face of the earth based on one more game. I still think it would have taken legendary-smoky-room manipulation to get that done. Either don't rank them that high to begin with or live with your decision and put Trinity in the tourney. Not that they care, but they really muddied the process (and remuddied it for people that didn't trust it to begin with) for a lot of us.

Plus, there is the possible "right to defend a national championship" vote that might come into play if teams are on the bubble.

Sure, but if it were fair for the committee to consider that, then it would also be fair for them to consider that Jacobson is done for the season.

I think SNC needs to play as if it's AQ or bust...

I think that consideration should only come in to play if SNC is in the mix for the remaining Pool C and all other criteria have been reviewed and they still don't have a crystal clear school that comes out on top. They would probably have to do it on the road, but at least they would have opportunity to defend their title. In golf, the previous year's major winner gets an auto invite to same tournament the following year, regardless of how they have played leading up to the next tournament. I'm not saying that if SNC finishes .500 that they should get an auto-invite. I'm just saying that, after all things considered, if they are still a plausible selection that would get little contention from the masses, I think it should be an article of deliberation.

If its not a documented criteria, then it should not be considered....but....these are humans after all..

They are human for sure. I just posted that for conjecture. I don't see it coming into play, humans are humans. Currently SNC is ranked 8 in the both polls. In the West they are ranked 4 in both polls. I don't see that changing unless they lay an egg against Northland. I actually see them moving ahead of River Falls in both polls as River Falls still has Stevens Point and Eau Claire left on their schedule. Thus, they may come out ranked #3 in the west. That should be enough to earn them a Pool C if they cannot win their conference tournament. They do have the head-to-head win over Eau Claire which might loom large in the selection.

As stated many times...

...those polls mean about as much as my recommendations to Obama.

Your recommendations to Obama? Wait, so the last six years are all your fault? I knew it had to be Oswego's fault!

Curious logic.

How 'bout this: The W has (all) 6 teams in the top-17 SOS while the NESCAC has 5..?

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Prognostication:

AQ's (all current 1st place teams)
Norwich
Nichols
Plymouth St
St. Thomas
Adrian
Trinity
Plattsburgh

Pool B
Stevens Point

Pool C
Mass-Boston
Oswego
St. Norbert

Should it end up like this, who has the biggest beef and why?

WIAC #2 and maybe #3 over UMB and SNC. UMB's body of work is not strong.

There might be another WIAC, but I think SNC over Eau Claire with the head-to-head win (and just about the same record). Maybe River Falls gets in unless they lose their last two to SP and EC.

Lake Forest (if LFC splits with Adrian this weekend and reaches the conference final, I think their resume might be stronger than SNC's

I also think SNC really needs to root for St Thomas to win the MIAC tournament.

If LFC splits with Adrian, they will have the same number of losses as SNC with SNC having the head-to-head edge (supposing SNC comes up with two wins at Northland…a task LFC was unable to complete). It would come down to their semi-final match if it plays out that way.

And, yes, I agree that St. Thomas taking the MIAC would be good for SNC, but not sure that they would end up ranked above SNC with 3 losses and one shootout loss to unranked teams should they not win the MIAC. Four of SNC's 5 losses were to teams that were ranked at one point this year (3 still ranked) and the remaining loss was to MSOE (who has been receiving an increasing number of votes each of the last 3 polls). I also feel if the NCHA plays out with the top 4 advancing after the first round, that MSOE has a good shot at beating Adrian. They played them tough early in the season and have gotten better with wins over SNC and LFC. SNC can finish 2nd and host LFC in the semi by winning both at Northland and LFC dropping 1 of 2 to Adrian.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Interesting stat for the night:

Of the NESCAC's 34 Non Conference wins, 20.5% of them have been against teams with a .601 winning % or greater...

On the flip side, of the 33 ECAC West's Non Conference wins, only 6% have come against teams with a .601 winning % or greater....yes that would be TWO wins over a team with a .601 winning % or greater, COMBINED, one of which is Nichols....

Also, while the WIAC is one of the worst conferences in NC Opponents Winning % (.377122), of their 41 non conference wins they have 7 wins over .601 or higher opponents. But 37 of their wins have come against teams with a .250 or lower winning %....
