The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Due to system upgrades with the NCAA website, the first public rankings will NOT be released until Wednesday, Feb. 18th now.

Here's my stab at the NCAA Rankings as we enter a big weekend:

EAST
1. Norwich
2. Trinity
3. Oswego
4. Plattsburgh
5. Mass-Boston
6. Babson
7. Amherst
8. Hobart

WEST
1. Stevens Point
2. Adrian
3. St. Norbert
4. Eau Claire
5. River Falls
6. St. Thomas

I'm very curious to see what they do with Hobart. One-goal losses to Oswego and Trinity may be the death of them. Turn one of those into a win, and its a much better resume.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Trinity will again be the interesting case in the east... will they rank them high and run the risk of repeating last year's PR fiasco? I'm going to guess 3rd behind Norwich and Oswego, but I hope they've learned their lesson from last year and they'll just win NESCAC!

St. Norbert is the interesting case in the west... they haven't played well since their goaltender went down (and he isn't coming back). But who do you rank ahead of them? Adrian obviously. Stevens Point seems obvious. Eau Claire? Maybe. River Falls? Eh, probably not. St. Thomas? Probably not either. I think they are #4 out west...

I'd put Oswego ahead of Norwich, in the categories
Win %: Oz:0.8684, Norwich:0.8684 Tie
RNK: Oz 2-0 Norwich 3-1, OZ wins RNK(assuming the teams you mentioned are ranked which they probably will be)
SOS: Oz-16th Norwich 33rd, OZ wins SOS
COP: Oz 3-0, Norwich 2-1, Oz wins COP
H2H 0-0

Oz wins the categories 3-0-1

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

It's too bad that the H2H category is always 0-0 with Norwich and Oswego. They don't play each other unless they have to. Having seen them both play in person and many times online, I just think Norwich is a smidge better. But the "eye test" is not criteria, so Oswego should be ahead of them. Trinity has impressed this year with some good wins, unlike last year. I think they are a solid #2 or 3. Boston, Plattsburgh and Babson need key wins to stay in the hunt. They have chances to do so. What if Hobart wins out ?? Amherst and Williams are probably going to have to win their tournament.

If Hobart wins out they are definitely in the discussion.

The top three is such a cluster. Pick your poison with Trinity, Norwich and Oswego.

I could see them in just about any order.

However, some big games that will certainly have an effect on next week's public rankings.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

IF Plattsburgh can pick up 4 points next weekend maybe. Another loss to Oswego. ...ouch.

Who are your multi bid conferences?

And if Adrian wins the NCHA and that's it for the conference and 2 WIAC & 1 MIAC make up the rest of the West, does Adrian play an Eastern team in a QF?

This might be the best chance for the West to have 5 teams ever.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

do games against the US Under-18 Team count in secondary criteria?

"Results versus common non-Division III opponents"

sounds like it does, but I know its an exhibition game so that might count for something else

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

I still think that SNC has a shot at a pool C bid, if they play in the NCHA Championship game..

Although I certainly would prefer they beat Oswego in the SUNYAC championship game, a win next Friday could put them right in the mix for a Pool C (with victories over Oswego and Norwich) and a 19-5-1 record. Depends on a few things of course. Makes me nervous that that exact same record was NOT good enough last year. Cards need Norwich to rub out Babson and Boston, Hobart to lose another game and/or have Trinity dispose of Amherst and Williams.

Exhibition - they don't count. The games they would be referring to address the games against the D2 schools out East.

I think SNC has as good a shot as any of getting a pool C bid as long as they take care of business this weekend. Honestly I've watched a few SNC, Norwich, Plattsburgh, Adrian, Oswego, and Trinity games this year and think SNC was the best team in the Nation that I've seen, with their goalie out now I'm not so sure.

That is the BIG question: Can Kujava step up and make the big stops that will be needed?
Also think that our D needs to play near error free hockey in front of him...build his confidance level and he may be up to the challenge....

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

I've said it for the last couple years: Write off SNC at your own peril. There's very little doubt in my mind that if we want to advance very far in the postseason, we're going to have to deal with SNC at least one more time.

SNC can't beat you if they aren't in the tournament. That's the reality that underlies much of their criticism. No one wants to face SNC in the playoffs.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

I was just checking out the standings and noticed that the ECAC-East only has 3 teams above .500 (30% - lowest % in the country among auto-bids); while the NCHA has 6 teams above .500 (60% - highest % in the country among auto-bids). Surely the stronger conference will have some bearing on the bids. Or, am I dreaming?

Depending on what happens in today's game, currently I would think only Norwich would have a decent shot at a Pool C bid. However, UMass Boston could do themselves a huge favor with a W today.
