The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Has that been confirmed that D2 games do not count in primary criteria. I've heard that it now does?? I even asked the question point blank to someone who would know and they said that this year, those D2 games count. Perhaps someone has a definitive answer.

Primary no. The seldom, if ever used secondary criteria, yes.

I'll double check tomorrow but I'm 98% sure Division II games only count in secondary criteria.

That was my impression, but I did ask that question directly. I remember hearing a little buzz over the summer about it.

New poll is out and Middlebury is two points away from being ranked. With a .500 record. Unbelievable.

Considering the fact that ALL 6 of their losses are/were to ranked teams (or teams receiving votes), and with their two HUGE wins this past weekend, I would say it is completely understandable that they should get "SOME" votes.

Let's agree to disagree (not everyday I can quote Men in Black 3!). I don't think 6-6 deserves to get votes, let alone most of the voters ranking them.

From the homer point of view, 9th for Plattsburgh seems about right. They looked pretty bad this weekend. If Finney is going to miss any time, they are in real trouble...

Re: Ecac/w

Re: Ecac/w

I am a little surprised that Norwich got a virtual freebie in the rankings after getting skunked by Middlebury. I agree Plattsburgh should be hammered for their 0-2 weekend.....but 6 spots???? One could argue that Oswego hasn't done much to be #5 either. Williams should be higher. The two WIAC teams split and each move up a spot?

In that case, when the NCAA ranking comes out in a few weeks, their Record vs. Ranked may not be too good.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Here we go again - my top 15 based on the computer...
Code:
Current	Name	RPI
 1 Trinity 0.6183
 2 Oswego 0.6028
 3 Wisconsin-River Falls 0.6014
 4 Amherst 0.5915
 5 Norwich 0.5895
 6 St. Norbert 0.5895
 7 Wisconsin-Stevens Point 0.5870
 8 Plattsburgh 0.5817
 9 Adrian 0.5748
 10 Massachusetts-Boston 0.5744
 11 Babson 0.5699
 12 Hobart 0.5674
 13 St. Thomas 0.5663
 14 Williams 0.5660
 15 Utica 0.5611

After excluding the Western teams -of which I have no informed opinion- this looks reasonable. An upset or two could stand the rankings on its head of course, but that's how close things are out here.

How do you calculate your metric? (Curious, is all... I rely on RPI to the 4th degree, which generally takes care of any common-opponent factor, then H2H as a last-ditch tie-breaker, which very rarely comes into play. And I ALWAYS ignore the polls.)

RPI is straight out of the handbook (on the wrong computer right now to look @ the formula) but I think its 25% WinPct, 25% OWin% and 50% OOWin%.

Right now I'm going strictly by RPI. When the rankings come out in a few weeks, then they get factored in and I suppose I could factor in record vs. teams >= .500 RPI.

Do I think Trinity will be the last team standing? No. My money is still on the gang from DePere defeating the Lakers.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

That >.500 thing can be tricky. It's like the "Teams Under Consideration" cliff that D-1 used, then discarded... IMO, it's much more fair to evaluate everyone on a continuum.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Safe assumption: All ECAC West have been eliminated from Pool C consideration again this year. And there is still plenty of hockey to play. Lesson here is parity isn't always good.

This isn't good either:
UTC-4 Nick Miglio (5-Checking from Behind) (Served by Max Bartell) NEU 1x5 18:10
UTC-5 Nick Miglio (10-Game Misconduct) 18:10
3rd Period (20:00)
NEU 3 - 5 6x5 PP Mike Davis (6) (Ryan Luiten/7, Casey Rogers/7)

It isn't realistic to assume you can play well enough all season in the ECAC West to earn a pool c bid with all the other quality teams that are eligible. They need a seventh team!

With Canton joining the SUNYAC, maybe Oswego could join their neighbors :p

The current compooter rankings... Remember games vs. D-II, Aurora, and Daniel Webster don't count.
