The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

This game had 120 minutes written all over it.

Which means we'll have 4 goals in the next 20 minutes.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

The only way I see Jozy playing is if we have a lead in the 70th minute and are struggling with possession, bring him in to hold up play.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Cabaye off the crossbar, Enyeama with a great save on Benzema. France threatening.

Pogba heads home the rebound after Enyeama punched a corner out unconvincingly.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

The French are just going to surrender to Germany on Saturday anyway.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Brazil-Colombia and most likely France-Germany

pretty much as expected on that side...stacked

You have to imagine that the winner will come from that side. I don't see the Dutch or the Argentinians having what it takes to finish it out.

That's what I'm going with.
I think people forget, not intentionally, how subs work in soccer. If there is a risk of a player reinjuring himself, but he's able to play, then you do not put him in as a sub, you start him. You only have 3 subs. If you put him in as a a sub and he gets hurt again, you not only burn a sub replacing but you've also burned one putting him in. If you start him and he gets hurt, now you only burn one sub replacing him.

Either Jozy starts or he doesn't play at all.

You really think he can go 120 minutes if necessary right now? You can't really start him unless you think he can go at least 70 minutes and I don't see that.

I'd start Jozy and hope we can make something happen. We need to play positively and we seem to need him to do that.

If we play the way we did vs Germany we might as well fly home today. 2 forwards changes the dynamic.

Jozy's presence seems to open up opportunities for his teammates since few other teams have the talent to cover Jozy one-on-one and be confident that their defender will hold his own.

I can easily see a forward ball to Jozy, he controls it as F Johnson flies up the wing, then Jozy passes to F Johnson who forwards it to a midfielder who is breaking toward a wing, and then said midfielder centers it from the wing back to Jozy as he circles from his first pass to Johnson into the penalty area to score a goal.

My daydream is that, over the next four games, Jozy scores enough to become a serious contender for the Golden Boot. :)

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

You can't start him, I don't think, because there doesn't seem to be any way to be sure he can go 80 or 90 or possibly 120 minutes, as SG noted. Dress him, put him on the bench, see how the match plays out. You never know, maybe we can win it cleanly without him; if not... well, if it's the 75th minute and we need a goal or two, I think you have to give him a shot.

This plan; I like this plan.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Been hearing a lot how Nigeria, Algeria and to a lesser extent Germany have players that are Muslim and are observing Ramadan. Imagine if this is the case in 2022? It could be even more of a recipe for disaster.

It'll be April 3rd to May 2nd that year, so luckily for FIFA they're in the clear.

Either he starts or he doesn't play at all. Jozy is not a "off the bench" type of player.
