The Countries: Forget it, Burkina Faso, Michigan is still the worst.

Yeah, at least Germany's economy isn't forever destroyed. The one I'd watch out for is the UK. They're getting more and more desperate as their economy gets more and more isolated.

They recently banned foreign grad students and faculty from bringing family members over. Like... YIKES.

Life in a Northern town.

In an apparent endorsement of the far-right "SA white farmer genocide" conspiracy, Fetterman doubles down on his support for Israel, telling South Africa to "sit this one out" as they present their case for Israel violating the Genocide Convention to the ICC. I guess the stroke has turned him into a conservadem. His overall approval numbers are trending up though (youth & minorities aside), so maybe it's a solid strategy?

Hard to go wrong hating on the towelies in a purple state.

Russia has been stripped of their women’s gold medal team gold in figure skating and a young woman has been banned for four years.

USA now gets the gold and Japan the silver. Bronze is Russia lol

Did they ever award the medals? They cancelled the medal ceremony back in 2022 because of the positive test and the fallout, then the Ukraine invasion happened...

Edit: Looked it up. The medals have not be awarded.

The article does allude to a long, litigious tale and the desire for a "proper award ceremony." So I'm guessing you are correct.

Everything in the Olympics is symbolism -- it has become international relations by other means.

India: cripple fight.

Muslims can't have multiple 9-year old wives. Hindus' families will track them down and murder them for marrying out of caste. So everybody hates it.

"Religious liberty." What if West Virginia had 1.4 billion people?

Outside of the requirement to register if you're living together, what's the problem here?

It sets a minimum age for marriage
it bans polygamy
it standardizes the state-recognized marriage process
it standardizes the state-recognized divorce process
it standardizes the rights of children as it comes to inheritance
it standardizes the processes of adoption

Obviously the devil is in the details. So if they're saying you need to have a Hindu wedding, that's problematic. But it doesn't appear that's the case.

What am I missing here?

It's against their various sanctified "cultural traditions" of abducting and raping children, burning the wife alive if she isn't a virgin or if her parents miss a dowry payment, and beating a woman for any reason whatever, oh, no, sorry, that last one's a Christian cultural tradition.

I think Kep was being sarcastic. This seems like a "If each of the parties are unhappy with the deal, it's a good deal" situation.

There really isn't much to be unhappy about with this (from a Western perspective). But as I've said before, India seems like a solid majority of the country lives in the backwoods and needs to advance 75+ years to catch up with how the rest of the world has evolved from a social standpoint. Because of this, the bill allows things that are directly against some religious/societal beliefs (like the case cited in the article of the couple who come from two different castes).

This is a good thing and allows people to live outside of religious limitations/beliefs if they choose.

An issue I can see is that couples who are shacked up and forced to register their relationship, could face harassment and discrimination from cops and conservative ape neighbors once that relationship becomes a matter of public record. Many Hindus still take the caste system very seriously and forming romantic relationships or marrying outside of your caste is a shunnable "offense", as the article points out.

As seen on bluesky

"Someone who turns 75 this year will have lived their entire life without an army invading across the Rhine river. The last time that was possible Carthage hadn't been destroyed by the Roman Republic.
We should not toss aside the institutions that made this possible, and will miss them when gone."

Canadian family moves to Russia to escape gays in society….now seems to be in a bit of a pickle

I encourage all conservatives to move to Russia

The irony of them not speaking any Russian and thinking there'd be translators and/or plenty of folks who went through ESL programs is delicious. As RWNJ Anglo-Canadians, I'm sure they whined about the mandatory French classes in their schools, let alone the immigrants to Canada who don't know much English.
