The Countries: Forget it, Burkina Faso, Michigan is still the worst.

And they say we don't build statues anymore.

China: How do you do, fellow kids?

The two Taiwan security officials, citing intelligence gathered by Taiwan, said the campaign was led by China's Publicity Department in a move to sway voters ahead of Taiwan's Jan. 13 presidential and legislative elections.

By doing so the Chinese authorities believe they could "sway the youth vote in Taiwan," one of the officials said.

They described the scale of the cross-department campaign against Mayday as "unprecedented", which involved coverage on the lip syncing allegations by the Chinese Communist Party's official newspaper the People's Daily, state broadcaster CCTV, and the official Xinhua News Agency.

The Procuratorate Daily, run by China's Supreme People's Procuratorate, also published an article in December describing lip syncing as an act of fraud punishable by Chinese laws and urging regulators to step up supervision.

Taiwan officials have repeatedly warned in recent months that Beijing is trying new methods to interfere in the elections and get electors to vote for pro-China candidates. That have included trade sanctions, exchange activities with Taiwan politicians and military moves.

Beijing, which claims Taiwan as its own and has increased military and political pressure to force the island to accept its sovereignty, frames the elections as a choice between "peace and war", calling the DPP dangerous separatists and urging Taiwanese to make the "right choice".

China has in recent years ramped up pressure on Taiwanese celebrities, international groups and companies to refer to Taiwan as being part of China, to the anger of Taiwan's government and many of its people.

One day before the presidential vote in 2016, a Taiwanese singer with a South Korean girl band publicly apologised for holding a Taiwan flag, prompting anger in Taiwan as it voted for its next president.

Can't wait until Fox News threatens Taylor Swift.

I had no idea India had already passed China in population.

Can we send both of them a massive shipment of rubbers? It's too late for everyone over 20 of course, but if we're going to change the habits and attitudes of today's kids in the developing world before they are old enough to discover sex, now's the time.

Developing world?

China is good at birth control. India's not great, but nowhere as bad as Africa.

Religion --> backwardness --> low education --> zillions of brats. The Great Causal Chain of Poverty.

Break the back of religion. Things will change.

India is both a fully developed, technological leading country, but also has a significant portion of their population where there are people UNDER 40 who remember life without indoor plumbing being a regular thing.

It's easily the biggest contradiction of a country the modern world has ever seen. You'd think that they would want to continue to modernize at a break-neck pace, but... They seem to just reject the rest of the world in massive chunks and do their own thing.

I just don't get it.

India is the US with more public pooping. The educated are ultra modern; the lumpenproletariat are apes with clubs.

FTL and you know. Leave the derp; take the cannoli.

the water war will first be fought between china and India and it’s gonna get ugly.

china will dam the indus and starve the punjab breadbasket. The line of actual control will spiral

Both those peoples know how to suffer. They won't stop at nukes, they'll fight a follow-up with stones and spears.

My money is on Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt for the First Water War. They're going to hit the wall first, and there is nothing to stop them from genociding each other the good old fashioned way.

I think this is where your idea of the South and reality diverge Kep.

Even in the most backwoods places in Alabama you have running water in showers and toilets. Many places in India lacked that development until very recently. Those places in India make Guntersville, AL seem like a cutting-edge neighborhood in Palo Alto, CA.

The primative is in their skulls. It's wetware, not tech.

Give a sloth a car, it's still a sloth.

I think the caste system has a lot to do with perpetuating it. If I were Indian, I would probably have been disowned for marrying my wife, who grew up lower middle class. There isn't a lot of "marrying up" over there that I am aware of.
