Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

While actually talking with hockey jargon and not just playing celebrate good times over one win over Merrimack, can you explain why this is not a concern? Because it's a huge frickin concern to me.

You guys crack me up. This post was a good one. I do enjoy seeing all of the rah rahs get excited and then get shot down with a dose of reality.

Where is the poster that said this team was "special" and "going places" after they beat UNH twice?

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

On the other hand they do have some talent so its tough to watch them lay an egg like they do at times.

Basically this. I mean Gustav Nyquist has to be the best non-goalie player Maine's had in at least 10 years probably longer. And he's not going to make one lousy appearance in the NCAAs? It's hard to fathom and super frustrating.

I want to believe. I wish I could. But when the numbers say you won't stop 90% of the shots you allow in a game...c'mon. That's dismal. Optimism or dumb sarcasm can't change the stats.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

We still don't have a goalie with a career save percentage over .900 on the roster.

Darling's career save pct is .896. ZOMG! It's .004 from 90!

You know who else doesn't have a goalie with a career .900 save percentage? New Hampshire.

I'm very concerned.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

there is a traffic jam of teams that are a couple games away from .500. that does not happen every year.

as of 7PM yesterday, Maine COULD have had a 3 game losing streak and MISSED THE PLAYOFFS in hockey east. they win a SINGLE game and they are assured of 5th or 4th.... and you are thinking coach of the year?

I am thinking ... "man isn't Tim lucky to be coaching for his professional life in a year when mediocrity can land a spot anywhere from 3rd to 9th in hockey east."

I wasn't the one who nominated Tim for COTY, that was someone else. If you had any reading comprehension, you'd see I was arguing that other coaches deserve it more.

But you have to find some reason to attack me, and I guess you may as well make **** up to do it.

If you watched them the last 2 years you'd get excited also:D .

and the really sad thing... in my opinion, is that Hobey voters seem to vote for great players on very good teams. (except in the case of Ryan Duncan, where they voted for pretty good players who benefitted from playing with 2 Hobey calibre linemates).

how many Hobey winners have ever played on teams that did not make the Frozen 4?
how many did not make the NCAA tournament?

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

When does the voting for COTY take place? After the HE tournament? If Maine finishes 3rd or 4th and makes the HE semi-finals, Tim has to be a strong candidate. As I recall, Maine was picked 8th in the pre-season poll. I had them as 6th. Can you say contract extension?;)

Well, I remember that Scott Pellerin didn't make the Final Four...

I'm generally with you on your perspective on this, but I don't think this argument holds water. Hockey East leaders or no, this UNH team is not a Frozen Four contender.

Let's see..

Matt Carle of Denver in 2006...I don't think they made the NCAA or the Frozen Four that year...in fact, I don't think they made the WCHA Final Five...
Peter Sejna of Colorado College in 2003...
Chris Drury in 1998...
Brian Bonin in 1996...
Brian Holzinger in 1995 - Bowling Green didn't make the NCAAs
Chris Marinucci in 1994 - UMD didn't make the NCAAs
Scott in 1992...
David Emma in 1991...
Kip Miller in 1991 - Michigan State didn't make the NCAAs
Bill Watson in 1985 - UMD didn't make the NCAAs
George McPhee in 1982...

11/29 or 38%. Five (18%) didn't make the NCAAs. Or were you just being rhetorical? Once again, for someone who knows it all, you seem to ask a lot of questions.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Runsub's correct, and I warned y'all this would happen. Timmay's gonna win COTY hands down, get his contract extension and all us Internut Nutcases will have at least 5 more years of suffering. So you might as well get used to it and accept the inevitable. :)

But having Gus win the Hobey will soften the blow. ;)

Nyquist should win the Hobey. How bad is Hockey East this year if Whitehead wins COTY.

Wow...that was a fast edit. When I clicked on it, it read "Whitehead isn't getting an extension" and now it says something else. That was amazing.

Of course Whitehead isn't getting an extension: All the VIPs in this thread have already contacted President Kennedy.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

What are the betting odds on the Wings signing Nyquist after the season?
