The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

What are the betting odds on the Wings signing Nyquist after the season?

I believe they need more offensive punch so I wouldnt be surprised to see them get him in their system early, especially after the year he's had. That being the case, da Bearz better make noise this season if they're going to do it, imo. That would require bringing Grant in to get the goalies heads on straight :) for the post season and better overall team defense.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Wow...that was a fast edit. When I clicked on it, it read "Whitehead isn't getting an extension" and now it says something else. That was amazing.

Of course Whitehead isn't getting an extension: All the VIPs in this thread have already contacted President Kennedy.

Wow I edited my post. Since you like Whitehead so much tell us why he deserves an extension?

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Nyquist should win the Hobey. How bad is Hockey East this year if Whitehead wins COTY.

Barring a season opening disaster against Union where I suspect they were ambushed by a team with a coach with Maine ties, da Bearz have wins over NCAA bound Michigan State and Colorado College and a sizeable win over St. Lawrence (who browbeat BC out west) and a sweep of current HE frontrunner UHN. So, although HE may be a bit down this year, I dont buy into the whole down year theory yet. My bet is that if HE can get 3 teams in the tournament, one of them wont embarrass the league. :D

I don't think he is strong enough but Detroits O sucks so it might happen

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

USCHO's individual stats page says SV, not SH. That's saves, not shots. So to get shots faced you need to add goals against plus saves. 2162 SAVES divided by 2380 shots faced is 908.

But that fancy inset stat box probably convinced most of the people that you're right, so kudos.

FWIW:

UNH website has him with a career .911 save % coming into this season and a .903 to date this season... i'm not statistician, but that doesn't equal sub-.900

Priceless = owned.

Oh my God, that's a horrible mistake on my part! UNH will likely be one and done just like last year.

Tim has no use for Grant. It's quite obvious though that a goalie coaching change is in order.

Tim has no use for Grant ? You really believe that ? You dont suppose that maybe Grant wants to step away from the sport ?

Don't be absurd. If it weren't for Tim he would be coaching well into his 120's

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

The two games were night and day in terms of Maine applying pressure on the puck.

On Saturday, they were relentless.Maine wouldn't allow MC to set up behind their own net unmolested, even when the Bears were shorthanded. There was at least one guy forechecking balls-out at all times.

MC never got comfortable, they coughed the puck up,and Maine generated chances in transition.Like to see more of that approach...

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Let's see..

Matt Carle of Denver in 2006...I don't think they made the NCAA or the Frozen Four that year...in fact, I don't think they made the WCHA Final Five...
Peter Sejna of Colorado College in 2003...
Chris Drury in 1998...
Brian Bonin in 1996...
Brian Holzinger in 1995 - Bowling Green didn't make the NCAAs
Chris Marinucci in 1994 - UMD didn't make the NCAAs
Scott in 1992...
David Emma in 1991...
Kip Miller in 1991 - Michigan State didn't make the NCAAs
Bill Watson in 1985 - UMD didn't make the NCAAs
George McPhee in 1982...

11/29 or 38%. Five (18%) didn't make the NCAAs. Or were you just being rhetorical? Once again, for someone who knows it all, you seem to ask a lot of questions.

I know it all like everyone else on here does.

that said, I greatly value your knowledge, I really do.
THAT is one of the reasons it is really tough to read your silly responses about Tim and his coaching prowess.

Thanks for the response, I am a little surprised that 18% of Hobey winners were on teams that did not make the NCAAs

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

One more thing,I agree with Wally about the D.It pretty much sucks.

O'Neill and Nemec stood out out in a negative way on both nights, but Dimmen might have been the best player on the ice on Saturday, aside from Goose.(Of course.)

Jeff took care of both sides of the zone.He came back and watched out for Sirman all night long.He defused a couple of breakaways. He was my first star on Saturday, though nobody cares about that.

Tell ya what,though...If Maine has no substance in net anymore, the D better show up every night.Otherwise, the Bears are screwed.

They aren't physical at all, some are going to say thats the way Tim wants them to play? Who knows but they sure the heck don't play the body much.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Yea, it kind of helps us see the sweep of UNH with a little more clarity. It was a fluke of epic proportions. :wink

Thank You

Maine outplayed UNH both games and won both games, no fluke involved. On any given night any team can beat any team this year in HE.

Or get smoked. Thats the problem. Maine goaltending and D = NO CONSISTANCY. I wouldn't be shocked to see them lose in the 1/4's. Wouldn't be shocked to make it to the HE finals. Either way they aren't going anywhere in the NCAA tourny.
