The 2015 Poser of the Year Contest

Re: The 2015 Poser of the Year Contest

Problem is, a proper jam usually requires sugar to set up properly. Though I'm sure nowadays there's some fancy designer pectins or binders that require less sugar.

I don't think the argument is the use of sugar itself, but the amount used. If you taste some of those brands not marketed to children, you'll find a very different experience than Smucker's standard offerings, and store brands for that matter.

Also, there are new binders out there, but I don't know much about them as I've never had much reason to learn about the finer points of making jellies and preserves.

Right, but you need a lot of sugar for traditional jamming. That being said, I'm guessing the more widely known commercial brands could stand to remove a good chunk of the sugar they use.

I do like Smucker's Simply Fruit line. Much closer to a homemade jam but quite pricey.

Re: The 2015 Poser of the Year Contest

I'm in a favorable bracket.

As for bread, I don't think you're supposed to put ANY bread in the fridge for storage; it goes staler quicker.

Re: The 2015 Poser of the Year Contest

Meh. I don't mind slightly stale. I just don't dig moldy bread.

I'm not sure if the particular critters who cause bread mold mind a fridge's temp. I know from painful experience that chili with cheese and onion in the fridge still grows flora and fauna.

They don't, I agree. But like all cold climates, everything tends to move a bit slower.

So, for fun we should toss a southerner into a fridge and spark up a conversation! It would be a timed event.

Re: The 2015 Poser of the Year Contest

Round 3 is over. Don't you wish you had voted if you didn't? We had a tie in one of the brackets! Fortunately, the committee has their policies all mimeographed, and we have broken the tie. To those that did not advance, we have some lovely parting gifts, including some fabulous Dristan products.

The semi-finals are now upon us. Two will advance to the finale, while the other three will not. As is custom, I will abstain from voting in the final two rounds. Good voting to all!

Ah another elimination, happy pony time!

Re: The 2015 Poser of the Year Contest

The semifinals are over. To those that did not make it, we have a fine collection of products from Sylvania. Wait... why is mine bronze? :p

In any case, it is now time for the finals. This time, there will be a repeat winner. Which one will it be? You get to decide.

Re: The 2015 Poser of the Year Contest

Only about 24 hours remain, and this is a VERY tight race! Your vote will more than assuredly count, and could sway who wins.

Re: The 2015 Poser of the Year Contest

The voting is over, and by ONE VOTE, your 2015 Poser of the Year is...

nahhhh....

Old Pio

"Congratulations" for "winning" the 2015 Poser of the Year, albeit posthumously. Normally, the "prize" is to place the "award" in your signature for the year, but as he sadly is unable to fulfill this duty... Rover, I guess you're interim...

Which, if you think about it, must be driving him nuts right now wherever he is! ;)

Oh! Do I get to make a victory speech on his behalf?

He gets his name inscribed on the POTY Cup. Which we should name, BTW. The Freddy Meyer Trophy? The }PROVICED Award?
