The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

The big climb to Andorra caused some damage, but not any really huge time gaps.

Nibali showed a chink in his armor, and Rodriguez bonked pretty good.
Anton, Mosquera, and Tondo really rode well. Even Tommy D was up there in 11th! ;)

Anton now controls the race...for the time being:

1 Igor Anton (EUS)
2 Vincenzo Nibali (LIQ) +0:46
3 Xavier Tondo (CTT) +1:04
4 Joaquin Rodriguez (KAT) +1:17
5 Ezequiel Mosquera (XAC) +1:29
6 Ruben Plaza (GCE) +2:07
7 Rigoberto Uran (GCE) +2:14
8 Nicolas Roche (ALM) +2:30
9 Frank Schleck (SAX) +2:30
10 Peter Velits (THR) +2:37

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I really though Mosquera moved too close to the finish but their are still 4 more mountain top finishes to go. Should be a wild week and a half.

I bought Cav for today's stage, at the cost of Nibali. Not sure if I'll get a couple of faster DS guys for tomorrow, or if I'll just be ready to go back to a climbing team.

Good trade.
Cav got 25 points, Nibali only got 10.

The website updated funny. Some teams got their Stage 12 update, while others didn't. None of our teams in our USCHO league got Stage 12 points yet.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Cav wins again...and even bunny-hopped over the line with the victory.
Hushovd shows some speed and gets 2nd, Bennati 3rd.

Supposedly Cav wants to stay in until the end and keep the green jersey.

When he stated he wanted to give Goss the victory yesterday I said to myself, he's gone in a couple of days or doesn't care at all about the points jersey.

Now both Cav and Farrar are talking about fighting for the green jersey all the way to Madrid.
I guess since there is two weeks between the end of the Vuelta and Worlds, more top riders are willing to stick it out until the end.

Voeckler won the Quebec GP, sounded like an exciting race. So close for Ryder...he's really riding well since the Tour.

Sounds like RadioShack will get to ride Lombardy after all? It was all a mistake evidently.

Ha. Dickey given a lifetime ban after his 2nd doping offense:

I raced against that guy in some of the MN races. What to go, you freakin doper.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Ouch, huge crash at the base of the final climb.
Anton involved, and he is out of the Vuelta, as is Egoi Martinez.

Rodriguez takes the stage, Nibali 2nd...Nibali takes over the lead.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Got 1-2 today and 1-2 overall. What happened to the Caisse D'espargne bunch? Did they wait for Brushegin after the crash? Didn't seem like they would since they have 5 guys in the top 20 but they all just disappeared and of course I was watching Schlanger and go go which means they told us nothing. They kept saying will the peloton wait for Anton and I thought to myself if he didn't hop on a bike and take off as soon as the team car came up they weren't waiting for him. It was interesting as right before the crash I commented on why he was riding in the middle of the pack rather than the front.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Looks like both Brushegin and Uran, didn't see Uran on the TV, hit the deck and according to their tour director both are not expected to start tomorrow. So I guess I will swap out Uran for tomorrow, not sure who to pick up though.

edit,

Picked up Roche and dropped Svitsov for a no name domestique to get the extra points.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I made a bit of a panic move after the Anton crash. Dumped him and grabbed Roche and since I now have a boatload of point to spare I grabbed Farrar again. What I should do is dump Nibs and get Mosquera for tomorrow.

I think tomorrow is going to be a day they let a break go. The leaders and the sprinters may be content to take an easy day, allowing the escapees too much time to make up on the finish.

The remaining GC guys my try to take some small amounts of time on each other, but I'm guessing they will all be fresh enough with only the finishing climb.

I went back to Moncoutie and Gilbert.

Here are my starters for tomorrow:

Vincenzo NIBALI LIQ 33.4 GC
Mark CAVENDISH HTC 37.3 PC
David MONCOUTIE COF 24.7 KM
Philippe GILBERT OPL 23.6 AR
Joaquim RODRIGUEZ KAT 26.9 AR
Serafin MARTINEZ XAC 8.2 DS
Ruben PLAZA CDE 10.6 DS
Xavier TONDO CTT 11.9 DS
Peter VELITS HTC 9.2 DS

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Barredo gets the win. Not a whole lot of attacks except one by Mosquera which gets him about 12 seconds. Nibali and Rodriquez gain a little time on Tondo. Don't understand why Sastre left Tondo on the climb, Tondo was better placed and a better TT guy so he would seem to be the choice for Cervelo to land on the podium.

Queen stage tomorrow.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I just screwed myself. I was thinking about lineup changes for the time trial on Wednesday, and wanted to add Roche anyway, but I ended up adding Cancellera today, instead of waiting. What an idiot

I had dropped Barredo a few days ago. What an idiot.

I dropped Barredo but replaced him with Tommy D so not too much difference in points today and Tom D picked up more the last few days than Barredo. Added Gustav Larson for the TT as Arrietta abandoned today.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Well the last 5 K were good. Schleck attacked a few time, finally got about 1 minute. Kruez pulled Nibs as far as possible before he cracked, then Nib in turn got attacked by everyone and cracked with about a K to go...Purito in red by about 30 sec...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I apparently didn't complete my transfer for Tom D. Oh well. Get 'em next time.
