The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I can't find Barredo anywhere in the listings for stage or GC did he withdraw?

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

So basically he was asked or ordered out of the break and he said screw it?

He also may be setting up a similar move for later in the race. Certainly being 16 minutes back he is going to be given more freedom than at 3 minutes.

Or, he actually is sick/bonk/physically not right.

camera showed him off the back, making the 'cut, I'm done' gesture, and then he did something else, sort of hand to mouth gesture like he was eating, or wanted food, so i'm guessing he just bonked.

I dumped him from my team, and replaced him with Tommy D. Unfortunately because he is an all rounder there aren't a whole lot of choices to replace him with.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

There in nothing on the all-arounders to replace Barredo with, except Tommy D. I'll believe that it was tactfully dropping from the break or a bonk, neither should effect his form. And if his form is good, I could see him winning tomorrow.

Also, since I haven't made fun of the Shack in a few weeks, Radio Shack didn't get invited to the Giro Lombardia, one of my favorite races in the calendar. Unfortunately neither did Vacansoleil, despite the Cobra.

Saw this posted on another board regarding the 2011 TdF, interesting...

Yeah, most of the others cost more points, so you need to dump someone else to be able to afford them. And other than Pozzato, there's no one I'd really rather have; already have Rodriguez. Cancellera's talents aren't really suited for this race, and Zabriskie? Please. It's like having Van de Velde on the list of the overall contenders.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Yeah, those could be great stages, though keep in mind stage 18 would not be a MTF. Though also, the ITT is listed as to Chamrousse which has been used as a mountain top finish (even I believe as a mountain TT) in the past. I do not know and can't be bothered to look how far it is from Grenoble to Chamrousse.

I thought that Pra Martino sounded familar so after some checking I found it... Queen Stage of the '09 Giro won by DiLuca!

Rodriguez got 3rd in the 1st intermediate sprint, which would put him in the red jersey unless Anton can get some bonus seconds at the finish.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I would have been better off playing as a "purist" in this new fantasy race. All those points Moncoutie scored, would have been mine. Gilbert finally got sent packing today for me.

After tonight, I'm trading Nibali and Van Aver, for Farrar and a low cost option in the GC. Leaves me with my climbing domestiques, but oh well.

Next time I think I'll play as "purist", but who knows maybe George will run the Giro again next year.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Pretty uneventful stage today except for Rodriquez taking the jersey based on the intermediate win. We will see tomorrow if Anton, Nibali and Rodriquez have the legs.

A Schleck and Stewie O'Grady out after breaking team rules by going for a beer, puts a serious dent in Frank's chances.

I wonder how much of that decision was sour grapes from Riis due to them both being gone next season to the Luxembourg team?

Tomorrow is a stage that suits someone like Schleck much better than the earlier, steep climbs of the Vuelta. I'll guess we'll see in the next few mountain stages if he is a real challenger for the overall or not.

This is what I was trying to do. However I gave up last night after O'Grady got the boot. I didn't want to have half the Vuelta getting zero points from a rider.
