The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Looks like they might have it right today. Stauff in 4th, Weylandt in 10th.

Wow, this is crazy:

From the same infection that is going around the Sky team...three of their riders have pulled out with issues already.

Cool man. Now all you have to do is figure out what I want for a mountain bike and you can sell me one. :)

Gladly! Check out the Trek/Fisher lines and let me know if anything pops out at you. I can let you know a price and any other details. It wouldn't be until early Nov though...just a heads up. :)

:)

I know in coverage on Unisport they mentioned someone in the Sky team was in a induced coma not sure if it was this person.

Pretty standard stage Cav gets beat once again if he is healthy it shows how dependent he may be on his lead out train.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Great win for Moncoutie on a stage that he said he was targeting.
Martinez and Moncoutie battled all stage for KOM points.

Rodriguez and Nibali move up in the GC as they lead the leaders group across the line a couple minutes later. Rodriguez will take over the red jersey from Gilbert.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Nevermind, looks like Anton in red, but tied with Rodriguez.
All of Team Sky pulled out of the Vuelta following the death of their staff member.

Good day for my fantasy team, getting 1st/2nd/5th/6th, and then picking up a good amount of KOM and Sprint points along the way.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

That is a fun climb! Thanks to the lack of sprint stages I was able to rework the team last night, in came S. Martinez and Tondo, out went Seb. Chavanel and DeGregorio!

So, while I can't match Brian's stage performance, I can claim 2, 5, 6, 7, and 9. As for the overall, 1-4 and KOM. I need to decide what to do about Gilbert. He is done as a GC force and the stage left for him aren't great...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Ok, after thinking about this for the better part of 4 hours, I was at work and driving home, I've decided that fortune favors the brave. I'm making a fairly dramatic shake up to my team. I'm hoping that the hills tomorrow are too much for Gilbert or a break goes. So I'm dropping him and KOM leader Martinez. In exchange I'm picking up #6 on GC Rubens Plaza (and hoping that Bruseghin hit a truck or something) and Carlos Barredo. I'm not thrilled with this but Martinez is likely to be dropped on the big climbs and I think Gilbert's value only goes down from here. Plaza *could* end up as team leader on Caisse and I hope that is worth more. Barredo is the best replacement I saw for Gilbert, which doesn't say much, though I can't actually bring myself to get on the Tommy D train...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Ok, so I made some changes.

Looks like I picked the wrong Liquigas GC guy, so I dumped Kreuzinger for Nibali. Then to make the points work out, I had to dump Cav but added Petacch instead.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

My team was on fire today with Arrietta, Nibali and Rodriquez. Really did not want to see Montcoutie win whenever I pick him he does squat but since I didn't he will win 3 stages and take the mountains jersey. I was almost positive their was a gap and Rodriquez was going to take the jersey from Anton. I am looking to dump Barredo but not sure who to pick up for 17 points. it's funny even though Martinez is second in KOM you can still get him for 6.9 pts so I dumped Matty Wilson in a transfer since he only scored points in the TTT for me.

Loved the Unisport guys not being aware that the other members of the break were still ahead of the Anton, Nibali, Tondo and Rodriquez group and talking about the time bonuses. My guess is they are not even in Spain otherwise you think they would be listening to race radio at least.

I like both guys but I kind of figured going in with Kreuziger riding the TDF and leaving to go to Astana that Nibali would be the guy unless he really cracked.

Your team and the overall leader are so close, the only differences were on today's stage were:

Him:
Greg AVERMAET PC 0
Peter VELITS DS 2

Titleist:
Tyler FARRAR PC 4
Wouter WEYLANDT DS 0

So you probably gained two points on the day.

I think the replacements are good for tomorrow.

Look to dump Farrar for a cheap sprinter, and get a better climbing DS when you hit the big mountain stages.

Got some bad new about Ale-Jet. He withdrew today...

Actually not a bad idea. I think, and events of today likely make the error OK, what I should have done is dump Weylandt and keep Martinez. Since Weylandt may not be the #1 sprinter on the team and LaVuelta people seem to hate him. But well see how things actually develop, it may all be moot anyway.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Course they're not in Spain. Half the announcers calling cycling races are doing so from a studio, watching the same feed we are. Even Phil and Paul, for most other races besides the TDF.

Awesome.

Not too bad, as he wasn't gonna score any points anyway. Time for a new cheap sprinter and a higher scoring domestique.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Both Barredo and Kreuziger are in the break today, with Barredo being the virtual GC leader. We'll see if anyone from the break makes it today to the finish...

Remember that tomorrow is a rest day, so we can make 4 transfers instead of 2...and the next sprint stage isn't until Stage 12. :)

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Not sure what is going on with Barredo...he doesn't look tired, but he is drifting back to the peloton now. Could be that the other riders in the break didn't want him there because it would force Euskaltel to work to bring them back, but still...he could have been leading the Vuelta if they made it.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Lopez from Caisse d'Epargne takes the win after attacking in the last 10km.
Great ride from him.

Kreuziger gets 2nd, looks like Moncoutie got 4th.
Peraud from Omega Lotto may take over the red jersey unless Euskaltel can drive it to the finish...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

So Barredo is possibly chased from the break only to see Peraud almost take red...Nice win for Caisse.

Also lavuelta, and the broadcast, both showed Marzio B to have dropped out of 5th overall, leaving Plaza as to Caisse. That would be good for me!

I see that too, but something looks weird.
Bruseghin went from 5th to 9th in GC, but he still finished in 20th on the stage (the same time as Anton/Rodriguez/etc)...and actually in front of Plaza in 22nd.

Not sure how he dropped 4 spots while finishing with the front group of leaders.
Peraud moved up into 5th, but he was the only breakaway rider to move into the top 10.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

My 5 point domestique gets me the win. :D Mountcoutie continues to ride well. :(

I assume that this site does not award points for final standings? Otherwise wouldn't everybody put all the jersey winners on their team before the final stage?

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I read on another site that there was a timing error that effected Bruseghin's GC place yesterday. And his placing today is correct. That makes a bit more sense since Marzio shouldn't have dealt well with a climb like the Xorret.
