The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Hey Brian, did you go ride with Lance at the Ride the Drive in Madison yesterday?

No, I was doing a mtb race near Milwaukee instead.
He was just here at work though during a company presentation.

Did you do Ride the Drive? I heard there were 50k people there...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Wow great stage and my fant team, thanks to transfers, 1-4! I brought in Gilbert just for the stage. Now I have to keep him, I guess.

No, we had about a bushel of tomatoes and spent the day canning stuff. Should have, though.

No doubt! Your team moved into the overall lead after that big stage... :)
I moved into 29th with rufus and Probert right behind me.
Looks like the USCHO league is holding their own against the other 837 teams. :D

Canning doesn't sound as fun.

Pretty good for a college hockey board, huh? Tomorrow will be interesting, the final pitch seems similar to today, but I here there is a ramp that goes to about 20%, so I'll go with the reverse of today, Puito then Gilbert.

Hushovd to Garmin:

I wonder what this means for Farrar. Will Hushovd concentrate solely on the classics and Farrar will go for the sprints elsewhere?
Could be interesting if they both get sent to a Grand Tour together.

I heard somewhere that Garmin is going for a big classics squad, so I would think that Hushovd will lead that, then probably get a Vuelta or Giro, as he doesn't seem to be able to really compete in the big sprints lately.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I've got Rodriquez, Svitsov and Nibali doing well for me so unsure what changes I may want to make. I am hoping Uran will end up as leader of Caisse D'Espargne as I don't think LL Sanchez willl be able to hang with all the climbs this year.

“I’ve spoken with Tyler about it. At the end of the day I think they are different types of sprinters,” Vaughters told VeloNews. “Thor can survive hearty mountain stages, and he excels on hard, uphill finishes; Tyler is really fast. I think they are very compatible. If Thor were six or seven years younger, like when he was a quick sprinter, it might be different. But now he’s really strong, he time trials well, he’s proven at one-day races that are 260km long, and with climbs. Tyler is pure speed, and I think they complement each other rather than supplement each other.”

The bolded comment made me laugh. :D

I'm just using the Vuelta to prepare for the Worlds. :)

Sounds like half of the big names at the Vuelta! ;)

Just here for a stage win? Or will you just be pedaling through and drop out before the mountains?

Brian, I hadn't read that specific article but what I read was essentially the same. Also if Thor isn't quick anymore why sign him JV? Or does he see him becoming a new, Norwegian Museeuw, sans the broken leg? That would be pretty cool, of course, but might be a tall order.

Agreed. I can see Garmin totally working around Hushovd in the spring classics, and probably doing pretty well with him (as long as Cancellara doesn't turn his motor on). :D

It'll be interesting to see what happens if Hushovd and Farrar both race in a GT together...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Another outstanding stage! Anton ahead of Nibali, Puito, Suitsov, and Gilbert. Great racing...biggest loser was Sastre.

Wow, that last km looked absolutely brutal.

1 Igor Anton (Euskaltel) 5:00:28
2 Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas) +0:01
3 Peter Velits (HTC-Columbia) +0:01
4 Joaquin Rodriguez (Katusha) +0:01
5 Philippe Gilbert (Omega) +0:05
6 Tejay Van Garderen (HTC-Columbia) +0:08
7 Ezequiel Mosquera (Xacebo) +0:12
8 Nicolas Roche (Ag2r) +0:12
9 Ruben Plaza (Caisse d'Epargene) +0:12
10 Rigoberto Uran (Caisse d'Epargne) +0:19

Look at Van Garderen hanging with the big boys! Awesome to see.

With the fantasy league allowing transfers, everyone's team will be almost the same by the end of this. :)

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

How dumb is Universal Sports?

Say you didn't get to see the live coverage of that day's stage, like, you had to work or something. say you go to their website to view the archived coverage, and want to view it as if it were live, without knowing the results.

What do you see there on the very same line as the link to view the coverage? The stage winner's name.

Does anyone who runs these things have a brain at all?
