The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Unrelated, but check this out. I can't figure out how to link to the pic directly, so go here, click for the 'baby blue/black' image, and tell me, yay or nay.

Not the Evil S-Corps!!!
Wouldn't you rather be on a pimpy Fuel EX instead? ;)

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Oh, and Universal Sports is gonna be showing the Vuelta. Not sure if it costs though.

I've got cycling.tv, so I'm all set anyway.

I got Universal so luckily I can watch it when I get home from work each day except I have to listen to Todd and Go Go. :( :(

That's pretty close to the color of my Trek so I would say Yay on the color at least.

That was my first choice to go full suspension, cause I like that they still look pretty much like a bike, and not all swoopy curves and manipulated tubing. I know they have them, but not to the outrageous extremes that some of the other manufacturers have gone to.

But then I realized that before I settled, I needed to give the Stumpy's a test ride. And I'm kind of a Rocky Mountain fanboy, so I need to check out the Altitude as well. Looks better in person than pictures would suggest. Especially the 29'er, not as huge a beer bellied downtube.

In addition, I'm being told that 29'er is the way to go, so I need to check those out. No 29'er Fuel, and I won't go Gary Fisher. Oh, sorry, a "Gary Fisher Collection by Trek'. Plus, I'm not that keen on this year's Fuel graphics schemes.

If the Brain shock works anything like they say it does, if it really does feel like a hardtail until you hit something, then I'll have to get over my dislike of the pot-bellied downtube look, and go with the best performer, then the Stumpy will be the one. I like the color, but it'll cost a ton more to build it up myself, I'm not really up on 29'er or full suspension components, so I might just go with the Stumpy Expert 29'er complete bike. I was kinda hoping for a Fox fork, but the Rock Shox it comes with offers both compression and rebound adjustment, the OEM Fox just rebound. Not sure about the 2x10 gearing offroad either.

Might go with the Altitude if the price and the ride is close. If I don't care for the 29'ers, then the Trek's still in the running, but then there's the Brain thing again.

Plan to head down to Boston and hit up Belmont Wheelworks for some in depth test riding sometime after Labor Day. They may not have exactly what I'm looking for, but they should have something with the Brain. Plus, Trek's demo'ing bikes again at Nembafest at Bear Brook this year in October. Plan to head down and try one out again, at least take my Blizzard down and do some riding.

Night time TTT...pretty cool to see.
HTC with the best time thus far.
Cav would be in red if no other team betters their time. Still some big teams to come though...Garmin, Sky, Liquigas, etc.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Bollocks! I make two transfers last night trying to steal a march (I added an Liqui and a HTC guy, both of them work out) in the TTT and I get burned for having 2 Garmins (for the 1st time) and a Sky guy (and it was a guy who got dropped)...I'm now sure that Saxo, who I have none of, will win.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Cav will be in red tomorrow.
It finishes like this:

1.HTC-Columbia 14:06
2.Liquigas-Doimo 0:10
3.Saxo Bank 0:12
4.Cervelo TestTeam 0:13
5.Lampre 0:14
6.Garmin-Transitions 0:17
7.Omega Pharma-Lotto 0:17
8.Team Milram 0:18
9.Team Katusha 0:20
10.QuickStep 0:23
11.Caisse d'Epargne 0:25
12.Xacobeo-Galicia 0:26
13.Euskaltel-Euskadi 0:27
14.Team Sky 0:28
15.Cofidis 0:28
16.FdJ 0:33
17.AG2R-La Mondiale 0:33
18.Rabobank 0:36
19.Bbox Bouygues Telecom 0:39
20.Astana 0:41
21.Andalucia-Cajasur 0:49
22.Footon-Servetto 0:57

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Pretty uneventful TTT though at night was pretty interesting. really debated about switching to Cav but figured Saxo would have the fire power to win . Doubt it will effect the GC much as it was a bit too short especially with . Nice to see Indigo Cuesta get #1 from the race organizers, in lieu of none of the podium finishers from last year coming back, as a reward for his 17t straight Vuelta.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

It looks like the riders point values change after every stage so obviously if someone withdraws my guess is their point value drops like a stone so I am guessing you will have problems replacing them with someone who had a similar point value at the start.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Had to buy the Universal coverage anyway, as I clicked on cyclingtv only to get a message that this pay-per=view event is restricted in my region. This after paying for a package in the spring that supposedly included the Vuelta.

Needless to say, I dashed off a nasty little email to them letting them know I expect some type of refund or other compensation for paying for a service that they won't provide. This kind of crap seems to be all too common with cyclingtv and their impossible to navigate website.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Never even considered Eurosport, cause the last few years when I've looked for cycling coverage on their website, it's either been not allowed in the US, or audio coverage only.

Too late now anyway, as I've already given Universal my $15.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I usually just go to cyclingfans.com and click. I'm told steephill.tv works well too. Today there were two options for English Eurosport, unfortunately Sean Kelly doesn't arrive in Spain until tomorrow, I guess he has a race in Waterford this weekend.

To the racing, bet the CTT riders wish they had already merged with Garmin so they do have to wear the black kits. In 45C temps, that can't be fun!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Darn, picked the wrong FDJ sprinter! GOod win for Hutarovich though, Cav second and Farrar third.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Cav pipped at the line after he is in the clear first time I have seen that happen in a while.

Yeah, I use steephill.tv, works very well and lots of links of coverage if one of them goes bad.

Wasn't that last year when CTT introduced the white kits just for the really hot races? They should bust those out again, I doubt the heat is going anywhere in Spain for awhile. ;)

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I kind of like the transfers. I don't get to abuse power often.

Stage 3 IN:Daniele BENNATI OUT:Greg VAN AVERMAET
Stage 3 IN:Carlos BARREDO OUT:Fabian CANCELLARA

Tomorrow Moncoutie will likely get sent packing, and I'll get a real sprinter.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Should be a fun finish today with the slight climb.
Seems like a good finish for Pozzato, Gilbert, or LL Sanchez.
Would have been a great finish for Valverde too. ;)

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Wow, fun stage with Martinez almost holding on.
Brilliantly timed attack from Gilbert to take the win, with Rodriguez gaining time on everyone else by getting 2nd.
There were some good gaps in the field on that last short climb. The GC will be very different now.
