The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Hushovd = World Champ

I don't think many expected that... :)

It was pretty cool to watch. I fell asleep and then woke up just in time to see the peloton recapture the break of thirty. Lots of people looked surprised to see those boys return. Then Thor slayed them. I being one who likes Thor, thought it was cool.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Contador is as good as done:

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/ast...dor-used-clenbuterol-at-criterium-du-dauphine

Add that to them finding the plastic IV bag residue in his blood samples as well and...

Specialized has realized that their investment is probably hosed and is now looking to sponsor HTC-Columbia for next season. Ditch the GC man, go for the sprinter, I guess. :D
If Contador gets a 2-yr ban, I wonder what will happen with SG-Saxo? With the team being built around AC, you'd have to think some sponsors might rethink things...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I think Contador is untouchable. He has the goods on Lance and if they go too rough on him, what is to prevent him from singing.

I'm thinking he starts the TDF in '11 and keeps his win from this year.

Do you honestly believe this? While he may very well have 'goods" on LA, I am sure he would be more than happy to sing about them if it helps his case.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I think he has to be done. I was convinvced, as much as one can be that the Chem was accidental, but then read about the plasticizers, and though I'm not sure you can yet be banned for them it sold me. The link Brian posted also adds fuel to that fire. Finally just read about Colo from ISD who tested positive in near identical circumstances to Conti at the Tour of Mexico. He team proved that Mexican beef will return a positive 18 percent of the time. He was banned for 1 year despite the fact that everyone believed him, the most the court could do was reduce the ban.

For his knowledge of Lance, I don't see that stopping the ban. He loses the Tour. Also was looking at the top 10 from the '08 Giro and its pretty packed with dopers...
Conti, Ricco, Bruseghin, Pellizoti, Menchov, Sella, JVdB, DiLuca, Pozzovivo, and Simoni. Of them I've not heard anything about Bruseghin, JVdB, or Pozzovivo. But Pozz is from CSF and Brus seems on the sudden ability to contend late in his career track so...Of course Gibo had that positive for cocaine...

Yes I do. Contador knows how the Brunyeel/Armstrong system works and could confirm a lot of what Landis has stated with authority. If he were to confirm many of the Landis claims, it would expose a lot of the testing performed as the shams they are.

Contador is in a unique situation where I think he is going to be able to negotiate his punishment. He is a shrewd player and will come out unscathed.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Went to NEMBAfest over the weekend, at Bear Brook State park down near Concord. Got to test ride a few bikes, A Gary Fisher Rumblefish, Rocky Mountain Altitude 29'er, and Trek Fuel EX 9.8.

The Fuel is now out of the running. Just felt slow and hard to get going, and not as plush compared to the 29'ers. Looks like my next bike is gonna be a 29'er.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Few things to wrap up the season...

Gilbert wins one of my favorite races of the year, Giro Lombardia ahead of Scarponi, having dropped Nibali after a crash.

Thanks to Scarponi's 2nd, Diqugiovani qualifies to ride the Tour De France. And while Scarponi is off to Lampre, that should mean that Lele Sella gets to ride either the Giro or the Tour.

Oh!
P.S. DiLuca is back too.

Brutal conditions. It was pouring rain on that final downhill...crazy.
Too bad Nibali crashed, it would have been cool to see them go at it on the last climb.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Tomorrow is the presentation for the Tour, we know it starts with the Passage du Gois, but should be interesting to see the final route. Its the 100th anniversary of the Alps this year so they will be featured.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Ok so the route is up. 4 Mountain Top Finishes, 2 in the Pyrenees, 2 in the Alpes. Luz-Ardiden, Plateau de Beilles, (easy side of the) Galibier, and Alpe d'Huez. Also Super-Besse, Mont des Alouettes, and the Mur des Bretagnes. There is also a 23 K TTT and a 41 K TT.

Also of interest is a change in how both the KOM and points are awarded. It seems that the points will be a combo of the old intergiro from the Giro and the traditional points competitions. There will be 1 intermediate sprint worth half of the finishing points.

Giro presentation on Sunday!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Thanks for attending. We had a great time and the event was a huge financial success for NEMBA. You in any of PK's photos? http://singlespeedphoto.com/nembafest2010

I'll just add, 29" is ideal for new england single track - Love my old steel on-one almost as much as the Niner Jet9 I just acquired.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Nope, not in any photos, even way in the background.

Oh, and Brian, sorry to break the news, but it looks like my new full suspension 29'er is gonna come from the evil 'S' company.

Boo!!! Boo!!! ;)
You'll enjoy it regardless. :)

The thing that humors me about Specialized 29er bikes is that for at least half a decade The Big S said that they would never make a 29er mtb...that it was just a fad, it had no benefits, etc. Then, when 29er sales really started taking off in some parts of the country, they changed their tune quite quickly. :D

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

La Corsa Rosa announced today! It is unbelievable! 7 mountain top finishes including the Zoncolon PLUS bianchi strada PLUS a mountain TT.

Also Zomegnan says:

These days there's never a boring stage during the Giro d'Italia but that's the way the Giro has to be. If the riders want an easy race, with no climbs, no descents, no rain or wind, they should go elsewhere in May. There's no such thing as a descent that is too difficult or a climb too steep.

Once again Le Tour will get the publicity, the Giro will be a better course/race!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Don't recall if it's been previously mentioned, but Jens is headed to Team Schleck next season.

Now all the Speshys in the local shop are 29ers. They certainly are pushing that niche hard now.

Rufus you going to the Wicked Ride Sunday? That's great terrain for that new 29" dually...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Won't have it yet. If I went with the Comp, I could probably do it, but figure I might as well spend more and get the Brain. I've got enough for a down payment now, and am counting heavily on my upcoming holiday pay and income tax refund to pay for the rest. I figure I want to order it soon though, so as not to run into the problem this past spring, where manufacturers had cut their production so much, especially on the higher end bikes, that by the time spring rolled around and we here in NE started thinking about new bikes, they were already sold out.

Yeah, Exeter Cycles, who I'll probably end up going through for this biike, are the ones who got me looking at 29'ers. That's all they carry for Specialized, for the last few years. Says they're perfect for this area, and they don't see any sense in stocking the 26" too.

What's the Wicked Ride? I thought I might take my RM Blizzard back down to Bear Brook Saturday, if I can finish up work early enough, and the weather's good.
