The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Cavendish wins his first green jersey, but Farrar makes it interesting by winning the final stage.

Anyway I need to congratulate Brian on a second top 10 finish for USCHO, great job! Presuming we don't find a way to mess it up tomorrow.

Right back at you! Looks like we finished 3rd and 4th in the standings. We both get a new jersey!

Cavendish is a funny guy. Starts his interview not wanting to cry about losing a spoke. But.... since Tyler didn't mention it and he must have seen it, Cavendish broke a spoke and felt he could likely have won if his wheel wasn't rubbing.

I don't care if he is right, which he probably is, just let it go. Take the green jersey, the teammate on the podium, and the knowledge that you will beat Farrar minimum of three out of five times you compete. Be a bigger man for a change instead of simply a faster sprinter.

Congrats on the jerseys guys!

One of the main reasons why I can't stand Cav as a person. Great athlete but very poor sportsman.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Brian, got a note from road.cc today about our the prize, are you just going to have them ship it from the UK to the US?

And to make this more on topic, I think Gilbert has an excellent chance to win the rainbow jersey!

I got the email from road.cc as well and I'm having them ship my t-shirt for winning a stage to the US. :)

I asked them if they wanted some cash to cover the shipping, but they haven't responded yet.

Gilbert certainly isn't going to be able to sneak away from anyone. Like Cancellara last year, anyone who can follow his wheel is going to try. Problem is even if they can hold his wheel, he will simply out sprint them.

Nice, didn't realize you won a stage sagard (or a t-shirt for it)! Good haul this Fantasy Vuelta for the USCHO crew!
I was going to email him back and see if they were fine shipping to the US. Hopefully they're cool with that and won't charge crazy shipping fees. :)

Gilbert was awesome to watch the whole Vuelta. I'll be rooting for him at Worlds.
Looks like Cancellara might be joining the Schleck bros team for next season? That would be cool if true...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Davis Phinney signs with BMC

Davis is making a comeback?
That's outstanding news, especially with his Parkinson's. ;)

Taylor will fit well at BMC I would guess. He'll get free reign at races much more frequently than if he ended up at Luxembourg or stayed with RS.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

In short, yes!

A longer answer is that he will claim that it was food poisoning from bacon contaminated by drugs and so he may have a defense. Keep in mind that Conti has been tainted by drugs before as he was named in Puerto and worked with the Hog. To say nothing of the fact that he has claimed to have asthma problems as a result of allergies in the past and Clenbuterol is used in treating asthma, so he likely has a TUE for it, though it seems that this is likely over that limit.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Sounds like it was a very small detection, so maybe there is something to the "food contamination" story.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/uci-contador-positive-requires-further-scientific-investigation

The governing body highlighted that the amount of clenbuterol was 400 times less than the amount World Anti-Doping Agency accredited labs must be able to detect.

Of course, Fuyu Li from Radioshack was just given a 2 year ban for the exact same drug earlier this year. His defense at the time? Food contamination.

Contador could be given a ban for this one...depends on how the "experts" figure on it. If that actually ends up happening, I would laugh and laugh at Specialized, who have dropped all of their eggs in the Contador/Saxo basket. :)

If it is only " “The concentration found by the laboratory was estimated at 50 picograms (or 0.000 000 000 05 grams per ml) which is 400 time less than what the antidoping laboratories accredited by WADA must be able to detect.” wouldn't that technically qualify as a negative test? Because it sounds like a lot of labs wouldn't be able to detect it at all. I wonder how much would have to be in "contaminated food" in order for such a small amount to show up on a test. For Fuyu Lee I wonder how small his test was.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

So, welcome to international doper day!

Rumor is that Mosquera is positive from La Vuelta along with David Garcia.

Also haven't found seen a few reports that Ricco got caught again, but haven't seen any English reports and the initial source is sketchy, I guess.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Busy day for those dopers, isn't it? :)

CN is reporting the Ricco story now too, but just that his house was raided and they found some unidentified capsules or something.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

So let's say that we can prove it was from food contamination.

It is hard for me to just waive my hands and let him go on, based on their current rules and others have been punished for similar crimes.

If they want to go soft of the banishment and fines, I'm OK. I don't see how you can let his results stand and maintain credibility. I'm truly hoping this doesn't go down the Landis/Valverde path of indefinite protests.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

1) I apologize for the poor use of English in my last, wow, that was bad!

2) Also, Cance wins the World TT for the 4th time.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

The worlds are going on right now. I'm listening to some french dude.

Right now with about a 100k to go, a four man break is still 14+ ahead of the field.
