The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Rangers fans weren't particularly happy about only getting 2 goals on 48 shots against Atlanta... and getting a SOL. Hedberg played on his head, no doubt about it.

Couple things about the Bruins

1) they deserved to lose tonight for that turd of a performance in the 3rd period. They were playing great, intense, physical hockey in the 2nd period and could have had 3-4 goals. Then all of a sudden they shied up and got bent over in the 3rd.

2) The refs tonight were awful. Awful. The disallowed goal, the early whistle on the delayed Flyer penalty, the no-call when Chara got dumped midway through the 3rd, Briere riding Krejci halfway down the ice without getting called for holding the stick - all sorts of terrible calls. I only noticed because NHL refs are usually excellent, imo. But they were very bad tonight.

3) Tuukka Rask is this team's #1 goalie. They are 8-2 in Tuukka's last 10 starts, 3-9 in Thomas's last 12. I have a ton of respect for Thomas and don't advocate pushing him to the side, but Tuukka should start 2/3rds of the games right now.

Went to my first B's game of the year. It amazes me how many stupid people there are at games. I thought it was pretty much understood that you wait for a whistle before getting up/coming back. There was also a guy two rows in front of me standing up and talking on his cell phone for like a full minute during play before finally sitting down. He then proceeded to waive his hands in the air at someone, obstructing people yet again...

Kids running back and forth all game long...and then the Bruins 3rd period performance :p

Ericsson left tonights game with an injured knee, will get it checked out tomorrow. Slowly but surely, this will become the Grand Rapids Red Wings, make no doubt about it.

That looked painful. It definitely hyper-extended in the collision with Doan.

Someone joked that they should all just start wearing Griffins jerseys.

As well as the Wild have been playing lately, it did suck seeing a VS promo for an upcoming BOS-NYR game touting Gaborik as, "a scoring machine". :(

Unfortunately he is actually the only person on the Rangers capable of scoring a goal. Also, someone needs to inform Lundqvist that his skates are not actually pinned to the goal line, and that it is OK to come out from the goal line a bit to cut down the angle on shots.

So they're missing almost a full starting lineup of players. Ugh.

Tonight will be the Anaheim Ducks versus the Grand Rapids Griffins in Hockeytown East.

The Griffs consider Van Andel Hockeytown West...

No structural damage to Ericsson's knee. He's out at least two weeks.

At least that's good news. I wouldn't be shocked if the Wings put a claim in on Aaron Ward when the Hurricanes try to recall him. I also wouldn't be shocked if a certain ancient Greek defenseman playing in Chicago got a call too.

Would he be able to log first or second pairing D-man minutes? Would they put him on the Power Play?

Just one month away from his 48th birthday, Chelios is patrolling the blue-line for the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. And he's nowhere near as anxious to get back to the NHL as you might think -- Chelios says he turned down an offer from an NHL team a week and a half ago because he wasn't keen to be low on the depth chart.

"It would have to take a pretty unique situation (to sign with an NHL team)," Chelios said Friday before the Wolves faced the Toronto Marlies. "Not to say I'd be picking and choosing, but I think I'm in a really great situation in Chicago here. It's much better to be one of the top four defencemen here than it would be to be a seventh defenceman in the NHL.

He would be just a seventh D-man with the Wings (rotated in and out of games), even WITH their injuries... and Holland already said that he wasn't going to sign people to replace the injuries just to be caught in cap hell by the Olympic break.

Considering that Brett Lebda is now part of the top four on defense... Yes, I think he would. :D

Doug Janik was called up from GR today to play defense. Weeee!
