The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Doug Janik was called up from GR today to play defense. Weeee!

Good to hear, one of my friends is cousin's with him, so that's kind of neat. Hopefully he plays well and doesn't get injured, since that seems to be the cool thing to do these days.

So an anonymous internet Philly blogger (not named Eklund, shockingly enough) is saying that there's major chemistry issues with the Flyers because... Well, Jeff Carter is banging Scott Hartnell's wife.

Somehow I'm sure this is still John Stevens' fault. Mrs. Chris Pronger was also not available for comment on these matters.

I originally came up with this for a certain ex-Packer, but it might work here as well:

(To the tune of "Bang the Drum All Day")
I don't wanna work, I just wanna bang Scott Hartnell's wife all day...
I don't wanna play, I just wanna bang Scott Hartnall's wife all day...

At least it isn't Tiger.

I've known that since his CCHA days.

Having watched him as often as I did, I'm astonished that he's an everyday NHL defenseman.

Oh, and having watched the last half dozen Shark games, I keep double checking the calender to make sure it's not April already. Three cheers for no offense!

The Caps are straight-up dismantling the Avalanche. I like it. 5-0 now, five minutes left in the second.

Edit: Koci runs Green. Erskine makes him answer for it, which of course the behemoth Koci does pretty well. Green not moving much, still on the ice.

Edit edit: Green skates off under his own power, probably doesn't know where the hell he is though.

Koci is an ape and barely qualifies as a hockey player. He doesn't serve any purpose out there other than to be a fighter.

Text message from the Bruins last night saying Lucic is on injured reserve. What exactly does that mean for his return?

Yup. There's footage on Youtube of a big Rockford/Chicago AHL tilt where Koci was being taunted on the bench. The Wolves player taunting him says (you can read the lips pretty well) "You don't play, you don't fu**ing play!" all while banging on the glass trying to imitate Koci. It's hilarious as you can see the guys on the Wolves bench trying not to laugh.

Unofficially, I think the off-ice timekeeper had him clocked at just one :30 shift for that game.

The Kings this year seem to be the real deal. Even with Kopitar playing like crap lately they are still winning, and Smyth should be back after christmas. I imagine Quick is playing his way in to a spot on the olympic roster.

I'd certainly hope so but dont forget these are the same idiots that left Ryan Miller off the Olympic roster in 2006 when he was having one of the best seasons out of all the goalies in the NHL.

IMHO, Thomas has no business making this team but he probably still will and probably even find a way to start a game if Miller gives up heaven forbid three goals in a game.

Quick, Anderson, Miller should be the Yanks goaltending trio.

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Obviously, numbers NEVER tell the whole story in hockey (part of what makes it such a great sport), but here's some interesting things to chew on for Quick:

Saves: 810 (3rd highest in NHL)
S%: .903 (31st)
GAA: 2.6 (19th)
Wins: 20 (T-1st)

Obviously, he's getting hit with a lot of shots, and the Kings are still winning a lot of games*, but his save percentage and GAA are leaving something to be desired.

*Even though it makes more sense to attribute wins to a hockey goalie than it does to attribute a team win to any other player in any other sport... its still a team stat being attributed to an individual player, which I find a little odd.
