Hovey's problem isn't if he voted for Dump. He's smart enough not to have fallen for Dump.

Like millions of Republican voters, Hovey's problem is he carries water for the party which, in America's time of need, abandoned us and cowered before The Poop King. The fact that they continue to suck Dump off out of fear of him and their own base is the second-greatest act of treason in American history, and the greatest act of cowardice.

That is the issue. It's not Dump, it's their cravenness in the face of Dump and his moron army.

The fact that Hovey personally could never stomach Dump doesn't get him any points. It means he's smart enough not to be conned by a cartoon villain. But he either isn't smart or ethical enough to stand up to all those who cynically and fearfully bow to that villain and pretend he has merit even as he foments violence and literal sedition.

How exactly am I carrying the water? Is it when I come to these threads and write that I'm in favor of completely open borders, or that I think abortion should be left to the decision of the pregnant woman? Or is it only when I pooh-pooh ridiculous notions that suddenly all rights will be taken away, except for guns, because we have a new justice on the SCOTUS?

You guys stand on the street corner with your hair on fire screaming "he's stealing the election" and when I tell you to chill, suddenly I'm a water carrier.

I got my first indirect death threat just a couple of days ago. A trumper here at work told me, "if Biden gets sworn in, I'll be the first person to load my gun. The tree of liberty needs watering." A threat like this, from this person, would have been unthinkable before Trumpism. This is someone who voted for Mitt Romney not too long ago and now he's so far gone that he wants to murder innocent people in Trump's name. The whole Republican party is complicit in the destruction of our country.

It's pretty darned odd that people are not bothered by the President of the United States trying to invalidate an election that he lost.

Even if the attempts are bad, and there's no chance that they will win, they are actual attempts to maintain his position in a non republican way.

Let alone the small problem that there are a number of his party members that are actively working to the exact same conclusion- again, even if there's zero chance, the fact that they are even trying should bother people. Should bother everyone. This has gone beyond a grift, which it was when just rudi was doing the dirty work. This is past legally questioning the votes, as multiple recounts have happened, and the votes have been certified. We are beyond a reasonable right to question the election, this is a request to just throw it out. With no evidence other than "stories"- which is "just because".

Having the most powerful person in the world attempt to keep a job that he has no interest in actually doing, that's kind of bad. Very very bad that he was clearly voted out of office. This takes the Racist party hypocrisy to a totally different level.

That's the whole point, Hovey. It's not your affiliation, whatever that is. Your choices are what suck. Your refusal to acknowledge that the Republican party has become a fascist party sucks. Your smugness in the face of an actual coup sucks.

I don't think you're a Republican. I think you are an individual whose mental quirks are making it impossible for you to see you are dancing with arsonists who could burn the neighborhood down. As a home owner, that makes your choices directly threatening to me and my family.

If a person feels they have been threatened, I encourage them to report it to the police and I hope the offenders are successfully prosecuted. I don't care who does it, or for what reason. I don't think I've ever said otherwise.

Yes, the stupid Texas lawsuit is real. In my opinion, and in an ideal world, the SCOTUS just sends out a single sheet of paper with the word "No" written on it. Can I guarantee you that the Supremes will toss the case out on its ear? Of course not, I don't control their votes. Do I think the SCOTUS is going to overturn this election? No. No I do not. I think the case will go nowhere, I think Trump will keep trying various stupid ideas until he simply runs out of time, then he'll leave the White House as he flips the finger at all of us, and that'll be that.

I don't think you see the latter continuing on the way it is doing causing the former.

The longer this goes on, the angrier the followers get. The angrier they get, the more likely they resort to violence. Who knows what it will be directed at- we've seen people shoot others in churches, we've seen an attempted hit job on a governor.

Seems pretty bad when a leader is doing this. Even if it results in President Biden.

It's not us who should be worried about getting riled up. It's the ones that are being called (thank you AZ GOP) to violence to get their way.

It will be awesome if "that will be that"- but I certainly don't see that path.

nope. That will not be the end of that. Trumpism is a cancer that has fully metastasized in the GOP. Republicans will never accept a win by a democrat. They will fight to over turn EVERY election they lose. Eventually one of these nut jobs WILL attempt a "second amendment remedy" to what they feel is a "stolen" election. Years ago I worked an Emmer Party (his nomination Party for Governor) and he and his family are Sarah Palin level crackpot. In fact the room was littered with pictures of them with Sarah Palin. If I was a betting man (and I am!) my guess is Roberts is telling them all to shut up and say nothing. He wants the EC to get the vote done so they can just release a statement saying based on procedure it is not within their purview to overrule the Electoral College. It is the safest and easiest path...

As I said a month ago...the last thing Roberts wants is to have any of his justices on the record supporting this. Behind the scenes they can think what they like but if any of them support the idea of the Judiciary overthrowing the vote (which is why this is different than Gore v. Bush) it doesn't just tarnish the reputation of the High Court beyond repair but it sets a precedent that cannot be undone. Even if it is 8-1...that 1 is more than enough to erode whatever is left of the idea of an unbiased Judiciary. The lower courts have all shown (55 times so far!) that even though they got the jobs because of politics the rule of law, pardon the pun, trumps the politics. Obviously that isnt always the case but for now as my dad likes to say the system is holding. I mean most of the judges are laughing them out of court without even holding true evidentiary hearings because of how lame they are and how it is out of their jurisdiction anyways. If the Supreme Court gives it more credence than the lower courts do it shows they are politically compromised. (leave aside where they are on other issues...this is completely different) No election will ever be trusted and they will all be appealed to the Supreme Court at some point because that will become the new normal. It will become untenable...and sooner or later the Court will make a decision that goes too far.

Honestly I am surprised after Safe Harbor Day they didn't just blanket deny on grounds that the Constitution set the date when this could be dealt with and we passed it. Now it just seems like they are stalling it out.
