Hovey is good to have here as an indicator of the level of delusion that ideology can achieve. He seems to me to be a fairly smart guy, and a meh guy ethically -- in no way a monster. He's not a lunatic like Flag or a cretin like the guys in the D-I thread.

With that in mind, his self-owns are spectacular and his blindness to the psychopathy of his ideology can only be explained by the power of ideology to turn a brain into tapioca pudding.

I think you give Hovey too much credit.

I don't understand Hovey's objection to using the correct term. Many notable "Republicans" are using sedition to describe it. Joe Scarborough for one.

You just don't use that word in polite company. Especially when all that's going on is just a disagreement about politics. One side says this, the other side says that. Nothing serious or possibly democracy threatening here. Just politics as usual.

My objection is this. It's hyperbole. They use the word sedition not because it legally is sedition. They use it because it's essentially clickbait.

And I get that. They are in the entertainment business, or people use it to draw attention to themselves, their twitter feed, etc...

But when we constantly overstate things like that, the effect wears off, and the word ceases to have any real meaning.

I disagree. The definition of the word and what they are doing are clearly in sync. Nothing is being overstated.

Oh, I could never give up Cafe, at least not permanently.

I'll admit, my life is pretty mundane. My interactions with other humans, on a daily basis, typically comprises discussions about work, about family, last night's game, tomorrow's new series on Netflix, what people are reading. And for the last nine months, how utterly bored everyone is.

But, I come to Cafe, and it's NAZIS!! Concentration Camps! Murder, Mayhem. Coup!! CIVIL WAR. Treason. SEDITION. CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS!!!!!

You guys are like a Tony Scott movie. Lots of explosions, not a ton of substance, and the distinct feeling I've seen (read) this before. But, for the price (Cheap), it's a solid two hours in an escapist, fantasy world.

Kinda like how anything to the left of Rand Paul is a socialist pinko anti-American commie? And real 'Muricans are going to use their second amendment solutions?

Because lord knows, it's not like there aren't entire media empires that have been devoted to spreading that kind of propaganda for 40 years.

I don't disagree at all.

Hovey voted for Biden. Or maybe it was more like against Trump.

That's actually an interesting question. I certainly would have never voted for Trump. I voted for McMullin in 2016. But I've always viewed Biden as basically Gerald Ford. He's harmless. So, I can't claim that I was out actively pushing a Biden candidacy or sending him money or anything, but I was perfectly fine with voting for him and there was no chance I'd vote for the other guy.

Hovey's problem isn't if he voted for Dump. He's smart enough not to have fallen for Dump.

Like millions of Republican voters, Hovey's problem is he carries water for the party which, in America's time of need, abandoned us and cowered before The Poop King. The fact that they continue to suck Dump off out of fear of him and their own base is the second-greatest act of treason in American history, and the greatest act of cowardice.

That is the issue. It's not Dump, it's their cravenness in the face of Dump and his moron army.

The fact that Hovey personally could never stomach Dump doesn't get him any points. It means he's smart enough not to be conned by a cartoon villain. But he either isn't smart or ethical enough to stand up to all those who cynically and fearfully bow to that villain and pretend he has merit even as he foments violence and literal sedition.

Emmer was the only Minnesota Republican to sign on to an amicus brief in support of a suit filed last week by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton trying to invalidate President-elect Joe Biden's 62 Electoral College votes in four swing states.

So, Tom Emmer. St. Cloud's Representative in Washington. Ex-GOP Candidate for the Governor of Minnesota has signed up for Treason.

Good for him. May he rot in hell.

Hopefully once all the additional criminal stuff bout Dump and his cronies breaks, these signatures amount to being On The Record supporting the coup d'etat and these Members find it inescapable.

Maybe we should thank Dump for giving us what we couldn't get ourselves: the evidence of who is a traitor. These as-sholes just signed testimonials for Stupider Fatter Benedict Arnold. That's gonna age well.

Likewise, save all the tweets.

The way I see it, it is similar to someone who ignores the obvious warning signs. Their face is drooping. They're struggling to raise their arms. Their speech is slurred. But they refuse to look in the mirror or listen to themselves, and then when someone who cares about them goes into the room and freaks out because they are stroking out, they don't understand the panic.

but what has he done to expect the Nazis from his party? Or distance himself from them in any way? No ethical person can continue to support any Republican, it's time for them to abandon the party and find a new home.

The ethical people left. The ones who remain self-selected as continuing to support this. It says something about them. They may not be Nazis but they are Nazi-adjacent.
