The Texas Lawsuit that Ted Cruz has signed up to argue at the Supreme Court is pretty funny. It appears completely Unconstitutional and laughable. The Supreme's already slapped one down. They should be slapping this one down too.

Red States used to try and hide it better. Now they vote in such ridiculously stupid people to high office its like a bad movie script. I mean 30 years ago 17 States would not have stood up to be counted as Seditious like this in public. And even if a few had decided to be this stupid they would have chosen an issue that wasn't so obviously wrong and stupid that are risking a precedent that will hurt them WAY more than it will hurt us.

This is an unwinnable gambit in the long run and in the short run...well I am not sure they even know the consequences of their actions. They seem to think the Supreme Court will decide to flip the results with no evidence...which isnt going to happen. What is more likely to happen (and more is relative because it is .0000000001% instead of .000000000000001) is the Supremes invalidate the results and throw out the States period. (again it won't happen that is millions of votes) The Idiots in Charge would see that as a win but that would only serve to lower the threshold and Biden still wins 242-230. On top of that you have now given the Blue States standing to challenge every Red State Election where there is even a whiff of shadiness. (i.e. every election in a Red State) and unlike the Red States the Blue States have lawyers who actually studied and know what they are doing. It will be a bloodbath even with all the Trump judges out there.

The Texas AG I get...he wants a Federal Pardon. But the rest of the Red States this is outright stupidity even if you fear being primaried. I mean Biden is about the safest Dem they could have in office as a GOPer...but if you are going to be this brazen about your actions he won't be Obama and just take it on the chin. They better hope GA doesn't go sideways or it is going to be a loooooooooooong 2 years til the Midterms.

Rbut if you are going to be this brazen about your actions he won't be Obama and just take it on the chin.

That's true. He doesn't have to worry about being tagged as the Crazy Negro.

The Right interpreted Obama's passivity and indulgence of their idiocy as him bowing to some inherent pressure they could exploit. They had no idea he was turning the other cheek by choice, just like Jackie.

These stupid racists are always making the same mistakes.

I said almost those same words to my gf the other day. IIRC Biden told Obama to be more forceful and Obama has admitted he was wrong to be that passive but yeah he had to be. If a Congressmen had screamed "you lie" to a different Pol in the middle of the SOTU like that they would have been destroyed. (in modern politics obviously) Since they did it to a Darkie though the clown became a hero for a while. History will judge him differently.

JR wasn't the best of the Negro League players (Satchel Page or Josh Gibson would have been most likely) but he was the one Rickey could use to integrate the league because he had the right temperament. That ticked off Whitey (not Ford ;o) ) even more cause they couldnt rattle him. Obama had the same manner about him and the future will be very kind to him as well.

Exactly so.

Obama will be remembered as a great president. And he belongs in the heroic pantheon with Douglas, Tubman, Du Bois, Marshall, and King. He is a great man and we are lucky to have had him as the de facto leader of this country for the last 12 years.

Sure they have. 11 of them, out of 34 (32%, and 17/50 is 34%). And by God, it was on December 20th in the months leading up to Lincoln's inauguration. <insert keplerian history/rhyme quip>

Edit: Ok, 7 of them before inauguration. Another four after.

Good god, the comparisons go on from there :-D

Buchanan was often considered by anti-slavery northerners a "doughface", a northern man with pro-southern principles
One of the prominent issues of the day was tariffs.[SUP][93][/SUP] Buchanan was conflicted by free trade as well as prohibitive tariffs, since either would benefit one section of the country to the detriment of the other. As a senator from Pennsylvania, he said: "I am viewed as the strongest advocate of protection in other states, whilst I am denounced as its enemy in Pennsylvania."[SUP][94][/SUP]
Covode Committee[edit]

In March 1860, the House impaneled the Covode Committee to investigate the administration for alleged impeachable offenses, such as bribery and extortion of representatives. The committee, three Republicans and two Democrats, was accused by Buchanan's supporters of being nakedly partisan; they charged its chairman, Republican Rep. John Covode, with acting on a personal grudge from a disputed land grant designed to benefit Covode's railroad company.[SUP][68][/SUP] The Democratic committee members, as well as Democratic witnesses, were enthusiastic in their condemnation of Buchanan.[SUP][69][/SUP][SUP][70][/SUP]

The committee was unable to establish grounds for impeaching Buchanan; however, the majority report issued on June 17 alleged corruption and abuse of power among members of his cabinet. The report also included accusations from Republicans, that Buchanan had attempted to bribe members of Congress in connection with the Lecompton constitution. The Democrats pointed out that evidence was scarce, but did not refute the allegations; one of the Democratic members, Rep. James Robinson, stated that he agreed with the Republicans, though he did not sign it.[SUP][70][/SUP]

Buchanan claimed to have "passed triumphantly through this ordeal" with complete vindication. Republican operatives distributed thousands of copies of the Covode Committee report throughout the nation as campaign material in that year's presidential election.[SUP][71][/SUP][SUP][72][/SUP]

I meant in the modern era.

What do you call advocating for the overthrow of the elected US government?

Serious question. How do you justify what the Republicans are doing?

This doesn't bother you at all?

Attempted murder shouldn't even be a crime. Reminds me of this exchange:

Fletch: Did you steal this car?
Teenager: I sure did!
Fletch: Well, I'm not sure that's even a crime anymore, there've been a lot of changes in the law.

Here is my take on what Trump and some of his followers are doing with respect to these cases, and the Texas case in particular.

First, it's stupid. It has no chance of success, and everyone can see that. It's a waste of time, it's a waste of resources, and it makes them look ridiculous.

It is not "sedition." It's not even advocating for the overthrow of the government. It is the making of futile and unsubstantiated legal claims in court. If making futile and unsubstantiated legal claims in court is now sedition, well, the sedition laws should start seeing a lot more application.

I don't "justify" what they are doing. I wouldn't do it, and if they asked me, I'd tell them they shouldn't do it either.

They have the "right" to do it, I guess, to the extent that anyone has a "right" to file stupid and legally untenable lawsuits, but they should have foregone that right and moved on.
