RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

well considering that there are play in games and if the standings hold(waiting on a pair between Neumann and Potsdam) RIT will be playing Buff State so maybe they were trying to take out Torgerson to try and make that game easier. Especially since the chick from Friday was trying to run RIT's other goalie on Saturday.

RIT will NOT be playing buff state. If you recall, buff state got barred from postseason play this year. They didn't care what happened last season because they had nothing to play for.

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Just an idea: If I counted correctly RIT has something like 110 penalties against teams that they have beaten at least once by 4 or more goals. That accounts for 15 games. Compared to another i looked up Elmira who has 12 games won by 4 or more and 65 penalties.

Now if I am a player and my team is getting beat by a couple or more and the other team is still taking penalties I'd probably take a few runs myself.

Do you have any specifics on what the penalties are, or are you just making an assumption that they're roughing and body-checking penalties rather than lazy hooks and trips?

You also need to account for the penalties the other team has taken - if the other team is playing a chippy game, as buff state did, I expect our girls to defend themselves and take penalties also.

And how do crappy refs play into this? There are some that never blow their whistle for legit calls, and then make up for it by calling ticky-tack stuff.

Thats latter is part of the reason I didn't look into what the specific penalties were. And either way there is no reason to defend oneself by doing something stupid like taking another penalty. As someone stated before there is no room for that in the game. If you want to get back at a team for being chippy pound a few more in on the PP.

So do you want RIT to fight or score goals? Because it seems like most of the haters around here would like us to do neither. Just an observation.

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

As far as I'm concerned if a team is being chippy and take upwards of ten penalties they deserve to have it laid on. I know there is a hole thread about this so I won't get into it here but I personally don't believe that Defendingoneself by taking penalties is the answer. I mean scruffles on the ice happen. But when there are games where RIT takes 18 penalties. mainly roughing or checking in the second and third periods up by three goals in a 6-2 win thats uncalled for and is how people get hurt. Play the game.

I forgot about that, thanks for reminding me.

In regards to defending oneself or running up the score I think the RIT Men's and Women's hockey program has the same mindset. Look at d4rksabre's status for that one. While I don't like seeing anyone get hurt, I do agree with the mind set.

Got proof? I see baseless accusations right now. This Friday's incident happened in the 2nd period of a very even game against Buff State. RIT wasn't running roughshod on the Bengals or playing an aggressive game. And yet attacks are still made.

And that's how it consistently plays out against these scrub teams. You don't see this when RIT plays Elmira or Plattsburgh because these are teams with respect for one another who come to play hockey. But when RIT plays the bottom feeders then the bad sportsmanship starts coming out. They can't win so they play dirty. It's ridiculous and RIT is going to respond. We've seen it at its worst two weekends in a row now with Cortland and now Buff State. You want to blame coaches? Blame the opposing coaches for bringing the goon tactics against a team that isn't looking to do anything but win games. I know these girls, and I know their coach. They aren't goons. But if teams want to keep treating them like they are, then I guess they have no choice but to play that game.

I would be careful throwing this term around as in my eyes RIT's only legitimate games resulted in losses or ties at the least.

Why isn't this a big problem when teams like Elmira or Plattsburgh play these teams.

Wow, Mr. d4rksabre......You have cleared up any thoughts of you being an intelligent hockey mind. Your last post is clueless. You throw barbs at the less than accomplished teams and act like your program is above being questioned. You do lead the D3 world in penalties don't you? Is this the fault of your competition or your style of play that is taught by your coach?

You correctly state that Friday's game was even at the time of the unpenalized hit on your goalie. So, why would the Buff State kid run your goalie.....and risk putting her squad in a manpower disadvantage? You say it is because they are scrubs.....more likely it was unintended and a byproduct of not having enough time to avoid the hit.

You say you know the RIT players and their coach....clearly you don't. You imply that RIT will play whatever class of hockey that their competition dictates. Now there IS THE PROBLEM! A mature mind would encourage his/her players to play their game and take the high road and not retaliate when a situation might dictate. That is what a positive role model would do.
That is what a classy program looks like.

Finally, you say this doesn't happen vs. Elmira, Plattsburgh, Amherst or the above .500 teams that your team fails to defeat. Did you ever consider that if RIT played their penalty filled style against them they would not be competitive. If RIT dared to try to do this against the elite teams, maybe they would lose 17-1!!

I'm glad you are a committed fan to your team, but you are a bit out there in terms of the reality that is unfolding before your eyes.

Not having watched many of RIT's women's games this year, I don't really feel qualified to comment. Something to consider.

End of Game

Now as you might have noticed I only bolded the checkings, which Platty had 3 and RIT had 2. RIT was greatly outclassed and played a very respectable game against a great team. They easily could of gooned it up when they realized they had no chance of winning but didn't. With trippings and hookings there are too many variables to account for was it a good penalty or a sloppy one, was the stick in the wrong place at the wrong time, etc. The ladies of RIT don't goon around but they all can if it is deemed necessary and Saturday it was deemed necessary. RIT does play a physical game and sometimes the refs actually do their jobs right and call it. In general the past couple seasons RIT hasn't had a problem with any one 5 or higher in the standings at the end of the season.

oh and on a bit of a side note believe d4rksabre when he says he knows the players and coaches. Some of the more die-hard of us fans at RIT are friends with some of the girls that play. Also RIT's hockey class was taught this year, at some point or another, by all of the women's hockey coaches.

Call me simple but I don't see where it is deemed necessary to goon it up when you are ahead on the scoreboard, and in much of their case by a significant amount. I posted the Potsdam game not to show the amount of "rough" penalties but the amount of "rough" penalties at the end of a game that could have been closed out with class.

It does seem kind of convenient that while you mentioned the RIT penalties at the end of the game you missed the slashing and roughing by the same player. Why don't you read the score sheet that you posted before attacking on anything that I said.

oh and hahaha where did I explicitly blame refs and ECAC observers?

I did take a nice gander at the score sheet and if you look closely I only highlighted RIT penalties (except one potsdam that i didnt mean to). The point in all this is being a part of the penalties. They took 18penalties in a game. I understand that Potsdam took 16. RIT took 9 after they were up by at least three goals. CLASS AND COMPOSURE

RIT has had 15 games (excluding the first ex. game) where they beat the opponent at least once by 4 or more goals. And has 110 penalties.

Elmira has 12 games under the same criteria and has 65 penalties.

Platty has 16 games and has 56 penalties.

Now many of these games are against the same teams, obviously, same conference right. now the question that has been presented before and will be again: Why is only RIT having trouble with these teams while other teams don't seem to be?
