RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Sheesh, we lose one game in overtime to the #2 team in the country, and we drop three spots in the poll? Harsh!

Well from the sounds of things, we played about as well as last year. Elmira just wasn't getting as many bounces. I would have liked to have seen the game in person so I could attest to that though.

You have the same problem Middlebury did, which is you have to find a way to win the close games against higher ranked teams. You both played as well as most of the elite in the country, and all close games with top 10 teams; you just have to find a way to win some of those games. You had a really good year, so congratulations. Maybe you can get to the "dance" next year.

I was at the game and personally, I think they played much better than they have in the past couple of years at the ECAC's. They were much more cohesive as a team and much more disciplined. They worked very hard and you could tell they really wanted it. I was very impressed with them this year and the game could have gone either way. We just got lucky in the OT. Next year!

Katie Stack will be awarded the Paychex Female Athlete award at the Rochester Press-Radio Club Day of Champions dinner this year. I believe that award is for top college athletes.

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

hey it means something....they'll start low in the polls next year and they make the first top team they beat look bad

RIT was my pick to win the West at the beginning of the season this year. Thought they would make the jump over Platty/EC but it didn't work out.

Once again they return a TON of talent and I'd put them as the favorites again with the losses Plattsburgh and Elmira will have.

It sounds like RIT is just a tad bit behind in the goaltending department on a consistent basis from what I heard in comparison to the rest of the top teams.

I think that goal tending will be pretty solid next year. RIT is returning both goalies from this past year. I think King could beat out Torgerson for the starting job next year(both are good goalies). If Stack and Dagg keep up their scoring ways and some of the other players step it up a bit RIT will be quite formidable next year. But then again this is all just conjecture from an RIT fan.

Truth be told, I'm not entirely confident in our goaltending. What we've seen from opponent goaltenders this year and last, is that they can face a barrage of shots and still walk away with only 5-7 goals against on average. Our goaltenders barely see 10 shots a game most nights, and I think that hurts developmentally. I can't recall having seen a game where a goaltender's play has kept us in it. Maybe the playoff game against Elmira this year was an exception, but I wasn't there to see it so I can't include it. Either way, I've never seen an RIT goalie have to stand on her head like so many goalies have to do against us.

While she didn't have to stand on her head, Carly did look really good in net on Saturday.

I don't understand why the question of goaltending is being raised. Does anyone expect or rely on a shutout to win a game? That's what would have been needed because RIT scored only one goal. All you can ask of a goalie is to give the team a chance to win, and she did.

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Truth be told...If it's King that is being referred to I thought she had a great game against Elmira on Saturday. She made a number of stops that could have put the game out of reach, in particular a highlight reel glove save with the clock ticking down in the final minutes that would have done away with any need for OT. The goal that did eventualy get by her in OT was a seeing eye shot from the point that was well screened and just managed to find the top corner blocker side. She's a big (5'8") butterfly style goalie that covers her net well, good lateral movement and always seems to be square to the puck when needed. True she is a freshman but from what I could tell in the limited action I happen to see her in this year...If RIT had any goaltending problems in the past, King will be a saviour in future years...IMHO.

Congratulations to Katie Stack and Sarah Dagg for being East First Team All-Americans!
