RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

I would feel bad for their present team, as half of them would have released to make way for better players so they could be competitive. Right now, they would have a hard time competing competitively at DI with what they have.

I think the idea would be you would recruit knowing you are going to go DI in a year or so. That way by the time you do you have mostly DI recruits and the rest will either graduate or get cut. You do feel bad for people when it happens, but it happens ever year right now anyways.

Gawd...I love all this talk about RIT going D1, cutting present players etc. right before the D3 playoff's. Keep up the good work...

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

If memory serves me right the moratorium is supposed to be lifter in 2011 which means RIT has at least another 2 seasons at DIII. DI talks shouldn't happen until next year. I am wondering where RIT will find their scoring from after next season with both Stack and Dagg graduating next year.

If what is discussed on these forums has an effect on the team at all then I think we have bigger things to worry about than the D3 playoffs.

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

First off, thank you 5 4 Fighting for posting the video links. That makes it a lot easier for me to talk myself out of making a six hour drive. :o

As far as us going D1, I agree that we will get crushed. We can't consistently beat Platty and Elmira and that is bad news. However, I would prefer to see us play consistently more competitive teams than what we do right now in D3. Besides, then people couldn't come on here and run their mouths about our girls and Scotty for being cruel and such.

As far as this weekend, I think it's going to be another tough one for RIT. Obviously I'm hoping for us to win it, but we've struggled with teams playing good defense and Platty and Elmira will play the best with goaltending to back it up. Keys to us winning will be making quick, clean passes, clean linechanges, and getting the puck in close. If we get stuck taking shots from the outside we wont win, plain and simple. Penalties are also a big issue and are what killed them last year in the playoffs. Skating hard and not taking lazy hooking and tripping penalties will go a long way.

Either way, good luck to the Lady Tigers this weekend!

OK...Just a head's up though if Platty doesn't advance to Sunday you get live stats...maybe?

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Why does RIT want to go D1? They can't win it all at the D3 level. They are just an average team. Why would they want to jump to D1 and get spanked by just about everyone? Is it for financial reasons or do they figure with D1 scholarship money they can recruit who they think they need to make a semi decent showing at the
d1 level?

Just look at the men's team for the template. We hadn't won "it all" in several seasons at the point we made the jump. Our freshmen the year we announced the move were people like Matt Smith and Simon Lambert, the latter of whom was a finalist for the Hobey Baker award in his senior year. And in fact, three members of the previous class -- who were clearly D-III recruits -- were still on the team as seniors when we won our first AHA regular-season championship.

And that's all without athletic scholarships. Why? Because the quality of recruits goes up just as a result of being D-I, regardless of scholarships being offered. What possible reason do you have to think that RIT will get "spanked" in D-I any more than any other team? It's not like we'll be fielding a D-III lineup; it'll be a hybrid lineup for a couple of years, and then it'll be a full-fledged D-I lineup just like every other D-I team.

P.S. RIT is ranked #4 in women's D-III. That's a really odd definition of "average".

So, when is RIT going to be able to make that step up and join Plattsburgh and Elmira in the top echelon of D-III? We're only a half-step behind, but it seems we've been there forever. It seems like statistically, at some point we'd be able to get over that hump, but we're still only beating them if we put forth an heroic effort.

Granted, anyone could have won that Elmira game, but it's notable that RIT had no shots on goal in the overtime period. Elmira came out and imposed their will, and RIT did not. Why? What do we have to do to figure out how to beat these two teams, if not consistently, then at least more often than we do now?

RIT would have won that game yesterday if they had 2 more minutes left in the third period. Elmira was more than on their heels...they were falling over backwards. A few more minutes and RIT would have found the back of the net. It was just a clear momentum shift after Dagg scored that goal. But you could see Elmira waiting to come on the ice for OT and compare it to RIT. RIT was flat, not a lot of chatter or anything. Elmira was banging their sticks against the wall and cheering and whooping. Hard fought game.

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Well I was at the game yesterday. RIT seemed to have a thinking problem. Player would receive a pass wait 2-3 seconds then shoot. Other than that RIT let Elmira pretty much just walk in the zone and shoot all night.

Just got back from the movies Tweedle Dee and it seemed to me you and your twin were the ones with the thinking problem:D :D :D

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Sheesh, we lose one game in overtime to the #2 team in the country, and we drop three spots in the poll? Harsh!
