RIT used to play here.

Re: RIT used to play here.

http://collegehockeystats.net/0708/boxes/mminrit1.d29 ?

Are they a new DI power? No. Are they respectable to pretty good? Yes. Could they be great? We'll find out soon enough.

Making it to the FF for DI is nothing to sneeze at. They aren't there by dumb luck or UNH scoring on their own net to protest the NCAA or something. They had a good year and are playing their best hockey at the right time, it's something that happens in this sport all the time.

If you want to argue the merits of rewarding the best team overall vs. rewarding the best team right now, have at it. But it's the same debate had whenever someone argues some slumping team wins the autobid from a conference, or a pool B team backing their way in like some claim elmira did this year. It has nothing to do with this particular situation, but more how you view the sport and what makes someone the 'better team'.

If you don't think a post season run like this really shows a team is that good, then you probably shouldn't put any stock into national championships, conference championships, or any kind of playoff format in any sport, and instead fall in line with the BCS (in one of its various forms anyway.)

Not sure what you're trying to say?

Not sure what you're trying to say?
First part: they already did go on the road to minnesota, and beat the gophers. I doubt any team in the NCAAs is going to be awes-truck by having to go on the road to face a tough opponent.

As for the rest of it, I'm kind of confused what the point of everyone saying "well, I'm not convinced yet" is. To say "well lets wait" until RIT finally does lose? LIke that failing to win a national title invalidates what they've done so far, or that no matter how many wins they get, all it'll take is one bad loss for someone to say 'see? told you so'.

So what would it take to convince you people? (Yes, I said you people; no I will not explain what I meant by "you people")

It's fun watching remy go from saying they'll never be competitive outside the AHA if they even ever are competitive inside it to now saying "well, they got lucky and UNH was terrible".

Funny how he goes from predicting them losing 10-2 to good teams to RIT being in the frozen four and he's still making excuses about how he's right and they're not very good. I'm just waiting to hear an argument about how they would have been better off staying DIII.

Re: RIT used to play here.

Nobody is going to argue about whether or not they belong playing DI;that said, if they get blown out some people will call them a fluke.

I didn't say I wasn't convinced yet. They certainly belong and have shown that and then some. The only thing I was trying to get across is I think it will be interesting to see what they do the next few years NCAA wise.

They had a lot going for them in Albany and made the most of it. I think if this exact regional was played out west, Denver wouldn't have looked nearly as laxsidasicle and RIT wouldn't have had a huge home crowd advantage.

Does that take away from what they have accomplished? Absolutely not, just saying I think RIT had a lot going for them.

Re: RIT used to play here.

Since the single elimination tournament began in 1992, the biggest margin of victory in the semifinals has been 5 goals (3 times)
1993 LSSU 6-1 over BU
2002 Maine 7-2 over UNH
2008 BC 6-1 over UND

The largest final margin is 8 goals achieved by Lake State 9-1 over BU.

So what's a blow-out and if RIT loses in the semis by 5, they have some pretty good company.

Re: RIT used to play here.

There's a whole crop of RIT hockey fans who have no clue who Elmira even is. And while for many RIT fans there's still a feeling for that rivalry, for many others, it has faded to a distant memory.

The only rivalry I know about Elmira is what I hear people tell me. There is no rivalry left, just bitterness between fans.

No matter what happens I don't think you can call it a fluke. Maybe 1 win could be a fluke, but not 2, especially after the UNH score.

It's kind of hard when they don't play each other anymore:rolleyes: ;)

Some RIT fan a few years ago tried to continue the rivalry over to the women's side but i think RIT found their new rival in Plattsburgh due to all that crap that went on two years ago with the transfering of players and the stuff between the fans.

Give EC fans a break---as they are the best program to win nothing.

RIT had simply too much going for it in the opening rounds----if they don't back it up in Motown ,I will call it a fluke .

Re: RIT used to play here.

If Butler wins (well, actually, if Duke does not win) tonight, I win about $85 in a bracket contest!

Re: RIT used to play here.

If Butler, why not RIT?

I know Butler, I have visited Butler, friends of mine have graduated from Butler..........RIT, you're no Butler.

(I started to post this earlier, but decided maybe I had better not...... :D )

The ice cream man in my neighborhood wants $2 for a stinkin' little laxsidasicle. But boy are they refreshing on a hot day. ;)
