>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I imagine that the corner crew section of the rink will be GA. That's how most college sporting events are handled. I live in Syracuse now, and the student section for basketball games/football games is GA, but if you're not a student you have to buy a reserved seat. Of course this is mere speculation on my part. One thing I'm looking forward to at the new rink is no separation between the corner crew and other fans by the zamboni entrance.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Because forcing people, like season ticket holders who have made a financial commitment for the entire year, to show up 2 hours for their preferred seat does not entice renewals

This is one of my parent's biggest frustrations. They drave a couple hours to come to a game, and in order for them to sit where I am we still have to get to the arena that early. I don't like it much either. I hope that the new arena rectifies this issue.

As an aside, attendance this year is a clear indication that RIT cannot rely on Corner Crew attendance to sell out. They have to be more family friendly to attract that fan base. That includes having places to sit.

Speculate no more. That is the plan. It could change just like the plans are changing every day. As of today the CC section will be in the south west end. I saw many bathrooms in the plans and talked with my boss and the plan is to have 2 food stands in the arena and one large one underneath. That is a change from the most recent plan. You will enter the building at ice level and go up to get to the seating level, just like BCA. This place is going to be GREAT. If you want it to be better than show them some green.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

My take on seating and the new building….

The feeling of being on top of the rink is an absolute must. Without that the fan experience will be lacking and the atmosphere will be diminished. That feeling of being on top of the ice sheet helps get the crowd engaged and I think makes for a better home ice advantage. It helps to create that awesome atmosphere that very few colleges have and can be used as a recruiting tool. I will argue that playing in a loud barn with a great atmosphere is a better recruiting tool than nice locker rooms. I would much rather play in front of 3k rabid fans and have crappy locker rooms than have nice locker rooms and play in front of 500 people.

I think a mix of GA and reserved seating it the way to go. A GA section for the CC and maybe another section or two should be sufficient. The rest and majority should be reserved seating. The GA / reserved differences should be reflected in the prices. I don’t think it matters too much if there are benches or actual seats. The good side of benches is that the crowed is packed in more (goes to atmosphere), but it is also more uncomfortable. The upside of seats is certainly the comfort and more room.

I’m not a fan of entrances to the seats being at the bottom. Entering at the bottom of an arena is a pain and it messes up the seating.

An adequate amount of restrooms is a must also. There is no reason to not have them in a modern building. Personally, I could care less about concessions. I don’t go to a hockey game for the stale pretzel or a bad boiled hot dog. Even if the food was good, unless there is beer, I really don’t care about it.

Does anyone know what the “final” capacity is going to be? I am concerned about it being too high. There is nothing worse than a 4k seat arena and an average crowd size of 2k (for example). I think it is better to have a not enough capacity (by a small amount) than too much capacity (by a large amount). It goes again to atmosphere and that feel of making a RIT game the “place to be”.

You will enter the building at ice level and go up to get to the seating level, just like BCA.

I haven’t been in the BCA in many years, but I thought the entrances there were in the middle of the seating and one needed to either move up or down to the seats. Am I remembering it wrong?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Early arriving fans buy more food and drinks. They also build the excitement. My wife and I have been season ticket holders for 4 years now and arriving early has been just part of the experience. We even had some friends show up later and we would hold seats for 4 to 6 people. It was never an issue even after the frozen four.

Unless the team shores up the defense, I don't see seating being an issue next year. Saturday was awful, my wife stepped away for 5 minutes and missed 3 goals!
Does anyone know if they are scoring as well or better this season compared to others?

Here are the numbers since joining Atlantic Hockey. I've also averaged the previous six seasons:

Season GF GA

2012-13 3.25 3.67

2011-12 2.54 2.21
2010-11 3.37 2.61
2009-10 3.54 2.20
2008-09 3.89 3.08
2007-08 3.14 2.95
2006-07 3.88 2.74

Average: 3.39 2.63

RIT is scoring right about at the same level as its average (though last year brought it down a bit) and that's with overall scoring down a bit across college hockey. RIT is giving up about a goal per game more than its average and 1.34 gpg more than the last three seasons.

No, you're remembering it right. I believe the Utica Aud is the same way.

Actually, if we want to get technical, you climb a set of stairs from the main entrance lobby and then enter the seating bowl mid-level, where you can ascend or descend accordingly.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Thanks for the numbers Ed. What do people think? Is the drop because of the change in goal tending or has the defense been letting too much in? It seems that when the games have been going south it starts with the defense letting the other team to get in in that sweet spot in front of the net.

With the notable exception of 2009-10, the Tigers' defense has always been a bit porous, so I would lean towards the inexperience and still question marks at Goaltending as the main culprit. It does, however seem that at times this season the team defense has been a little worse than what we're used to seeing. So I wouldn't let the Team D off the hook either.

I believe the new rink will be like BCA in that respect. You enter at ground level and have to ascend stairs to get up to where you enter the bowl. Every drawing, plan, and blueprint I have seen has reflected this.

Which means that it is similar to the new arena plan given that there will be no "upper bowl" necessary in the Polessini Center. Prior to the renovations, the War Memorial had entrances and concourses at street/ice level and at the mid-level. When they renovated they got rid of the downstairs access to the fans and directed them from the street level entrance/ticket windows/gift shop directly upstairs to the mid-level.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

It's not exactly a new revelation that our goaltending isn't very good though. Not sure why people are glad to hear it now, as opposed to the many other times it could have been stated. I hope that Maclean gets some more looks next year, because I don't really like our chances if we have to ride Watty and Ruby for 1-2 more years.

I agree Goaltending has not been the strongest part of RIT's game this season, but honestly up until Saturday's game I didn't think it cost them a game. I mean yeah maybe Mads could have "stole" say the RMU or Canisius game (But don't tell him I said that :D). But those games there was so many defensive break downs it really hard to blame it on a goaltender. I think this was just a really bad game by Watson, his first in a while. It happens, problem being a goaltender there is no where to hide when you have a bad game. I think he will bounce back, but I also think they should not give up on Ruby either. We need to have confidence in one of these guys or next year will be interesting in bad ways...

BTW, Maybe we should open a second thread for RIT Arena suggestions/Debate and leave the talk about actual hockey here?? ........And everyone throw an egg my way....

No. Goon said enter the building at ice level, not enter the seating area at ice level.

I think we all knew that the Polisseni Center ice would be at ground level, given its location; a concern arose when someone implied we'd enter the seating bowl at ice level.

Speaking of goaltending, does last Saturday's turn of events mean Watson doesn't start on Friday night?

No, one rough game isn't going to shake Wilson's confidence in Watson.

My mistake then. Does anyone really care where the building entrance is? I do care about the entrance to the seats but not how I get into the building.

Fan voting is open for the Atlantic Hockey 10th anniversary team. The voting is strange having to email your choices; I don't why they couldn't figure out how to do online voting, but anyway from RIT on the ballot:

Forward: Simon Lambert
Defence: Dan Ringwald & Chris Tanev
Goaltender: Jared DiMichiel & Shane Madolora

Bummed to only see 1 RIT forward on the list. I would have liked to have seen Burt nominated also.

Vote!! Let's make sure the Tigers are well represented on the 10th anniversary team!!

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Burt over Brenner, Favot, or Matt Smith? Really??

Yes, Really! Based on the stats that are in the ballot (Games played, goals, assists, & points plus season awards)

Burt's career stats: 147 games played, 43 goals, 93 assists, 136 points, 09-10 - 3rd team all conference
Favot's career stats: 140 games played, 41 goals, 89 assists, 130 points, 2010-11 3rd team all conference, 09-10 2nd team all conference
Brenner's career stats: 108 games played, 55 goals, 47 assists, 102 points, 08-09 All Rookie team
Matt Smith's career stats: 125 games played, 62 goals, 51 assists, 113 points, no conference awards

Now ideally I'd like to see them all nominated, but I'd choose Burt and that's not just based on these stats although these are what seemed to be used for the nominations.
