>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

One of the reasons for keeping the benches on opposite sides is so that both the men's and women's teams can enter the bench from their locker rooms.

Back to half full... looks very reminiscent of the Ritter but enlarged. Looking forward to more "leaks"

Hey speaking of leaks... Gotta say I loved Wilson comment on WITR after Saturday nights game when he basically said. "Their goaltending was good, Chubak made some big saves. And we Leaked back there..."

That has to be one of the best, on air, comments I have ever heard from Wayne. Very correct too I might add, was actually pretty happy with the team this weekend, except for goaltending Saturday was horrible. It RIT got Goaltending Saturday it would have been a heck of a game. Also the First Niagara Goal was a result of a horrible miss icing call. Despite all that team played well, if they get decent goaltending they will have a chance in the playoffs...

Not looking forward to any more of that kind of "leak" :(

I think our ice size hurts our team as well, kind of bush league to not play on 200x85
Exactly.

Meetings like the one today on the press area are going on for all different facets of the arena as they nail down details.

I hope they get rid of the big hands or otherwise, there are going to be some low scoring games! :D

It's not exactly a new revelation that our goaltending isn't very good though. Not sure why people are glad to hear it now, as opposed to the many other times it could have been stated. I hope that Maclean gets some more looks next year, because I don't really like our chances if we have to ride Watty and Ruby for 1-2 more years.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Quick glance at the twitter pic of the plans and I was about ready to rant on RITProf for holding out out on us. Claiming he has no first hand knowledge of the plans. Took a closer look though, and it's "RIT Proj" in the title block. :)

All this talk about how the new arena will be worse than the Ritter reminds me of the discussions back in the DIII days when it was first rumored that the Tigers were going to upgrade to DI. "We won't be contenders every year. It won't be the same without Elmira. With scholarships we'll get killed. Do you want to be like Union?" We were really comfortable being one of the bigger fish in the "little" pond, and unsure about playing with the big boys. Anybody want to go back to DIII now?

Truth of the matter is that the new arena won't be the Ritter. It will be a different place and it will have a different feel. Heck, even the Ritter changed when they "fixed" the acoustics. I recall discussions that people were upset that they couldn't hear the corner crew cheers from the other side of the arena. Everything we've heard says that the administration is concentrating on preserving the feel of the the old barn. Steep seating, intimate feel, fans right on top of the ice. Assuming they get that right, little things like suites and press boxes taking some of the standing room away, and a couple of tunnels on the visitors side of the ice will be quickly forgotten. Speaking of tunnels, do the two that are on the visitors side of the Ritter or the fact that there are no fans right up against the glass on the either end now impact it? Just wondering....

And RITProf, Why you holding out on us :)

One of the reasons for keeping the benches on opposite sides is so that both the men's and women's teams can enter the bench from their locker rooms.

So they are going back to opposite home benches? I kind of expected both home locker rooms to exit near each other, and lead into a hallway to the penalty box side benches. This is opposite the press area, giving what I expected to be good camera angles of the home bench.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

No ... there's only room for two locker rooms on each side. Both the men's and women's locker rooms are on the same side as the home bench (unlike now) and the team will enter the bench from the locker room. If the two benches were side-by-side, there would have to be a visiting locker room.

In other words, home bench and two home lockers on the same side.

...right. Sorry, brain lapse there. Makes sense now.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Individual seats is absolutely necessary. My retired Dad has the time (and passion for the game) To show up several hours early so he can save the seats we want to sit in. EVERY home game. I am also sick of seeing parents trying to find seats with with little kids in tow and being forced to stand or leave. You want to grow the game here? Make it an easy experience to go to. There was a whole youth hockey team standing next to the corner last Friday. I doubt that's where they wanted to "sit". I know they have reserved sections but that's hindering access for general admission.

i agree with the sentiment here, but simply increasing the capacity should solve most of these issues. i don't think individual seats will be necessary when you have room for 4-5k.

I disagree, reserved sections are your solution. We're lucky if there's more than a handful of people in those seats by the time of the puck drop. We've sold out, what, 3 games this season? Moving into a new building with twice the seating should solve the issues without needing to force individual seats.

There are long lines at the bathroom especially the woman's room at intermission. The concessions frankly need to be greatly expanded and the long lines for boiled hot dogs and pop corn need to be reduced

Have you been to Blue Cross? Or any other arena? Long lines at intermission are a fact of life - it's impossible to avoid. I'm sure the new building will have more than a single pair of bathrooms, but it will also have twice the number of bodies trying to use them. Agree on the concessions, but I don't think there's anyone who would challenge that. Our concession selection is quite poor and has actually been reduced since last year.

There are long lines and then there are ridiculous lines and the lines at the bathrooms and concessions at Ritter are ridiculous. I've seen the concessions line stretch almost to the Corner Crew at times and the problem with Ritter's bathrooms is that there simply aren't enough stalls in them. It's obvious that these issues need to be addressed and fixed in the new rink.

Yeah cause the reserved sections suck, well the season ticket one isn't bad but the others ones in the corner on which RIT gets shot on twice do. As a season ticket holder I want to select my seat anywhere in the arena and show up 30 minutes before the game and not sit on bleachers. Same thing if I was just buying single game tickets. When I go to the game I want my seat to be my seat and not worry about it.

I have been to blue cross and its rare that I have to wait for more than 4-5 people in front me. Same thing at First Niagara. Yes there will always be lines but if facilities were better we could reduce wait times and congestion on the concourse

I guess I am in the minority here but I'll trade a possible seat incline decrease for some improvements elsewhere which I think are sorely needed

Couldn't agree more... the current reserve sections really do suck. I don't think you're in the minority... and all the people I talk to really hate the bleacher seating. Can't wait to have real seats that are comfortable and can be reserved in prime areas.

The surest way to ruin the atmosphere of the new rink will be if they start to reserve all the prime seating. It's undemocratic.

I'm not recommending bleachers or benches. But there's no reason that having seats mean they have to be reserved. Look at the Blue Cross RIT games as a perfect example of how general admission in bigger barns with actual seating works.

This. A million times this. The people willing to pay the extra to have their reserved seat in a "prime" location are the same people who are going to sit through the whole game quietly and add nothing to the famed RIT hockey atmosphere. Already at Ritter you have the loud end (CC/Season Tickets) and the quiet end. If we start carving up all the good seats with reserved pricing, the whole barn will be more like the quiet end.

The college hockey experience SHOULD NOT seek to emulate its professional cousins. AHL and NHL arenas are rarely as exciting as a full college barn exactly because of the audience and the types of people they attract. I'd much rather have some people have to stand or leave than have a silent barn that's no fun to go to.
