>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Yeah, I'll take the guys who carried the offense their senior year (Favot/Brenner) over the guy who had a disappointing junior/senior campaign. Nominating Burt over either Favot or Brenner doesn't pass the eye test.

Let me start out by saying Favot and Brenner were both great RIT hockey players and I would have liked to have seen them nominated as well. The nominations are based on a players entire college career not just their senior year production. If it were based only on the player's senior year I'm guessing that AHA ballot would look a whole lot different. Burt's career numbers are right on par with Favot/Brenners and in some cases exceeds theirs. So my choice to nominate him over Favot/Brenner isn't as far fetched as you'd like to make it out to be. And by the way guess where a good number of passes came from that allowed Favot/Brenner to score goals in their senior campaigns? Burt had 22 assists that year.

Burt was just as big a part of the reason RIT went to the Frozen Four. He is RIT's all time leading DI scorer. It's pretty disappointing how so many people want to dismiss his accomplishments here on the board. If you reversed his last 2 years and his first 2 years, he would be considered one of the all-time greats at RIT.

I was surprised that he, Favot, and Brenner were not nominated. I think if I had to pick one it would be more between Favot and Burt.

The whole issue with Burt is that it appeared he regressed as his career at RIT went along. It makes me wonder if his stats early in his career have more to do with his teammates being so good as opposed to him being that good. Or I suppose it could be that later in his career his teammates were so poor that teams could focus on him and "ignore" the rest of the team. It's something we will never know, but I don't think people knocking a little bit on Burt due to his regression is completely out of line.

The thing that bothers me about this argument is that it's more of a "feeling" argument than one substantiated by stats.

His senior year, he was second in the team in points, with 31. Colevecchia edged him out with 32. He was 10 points above the next best player. This pretty clearly shows that, despite the talent level dropping around him, he was able to continue to be a top producer and, even with Brenner/Favot gone he scored more points this year than his junior year.

The his junior he was lower, 4th overall, but he was playing on the second line. Favot, Brenner, and Lynch were the top line, and they were the three above him.

So we're talking about a guy who scored 27 or more points in 4 straight seasons, and scored some huge goals for this team. He may not be "better" than Brenner or Favot, but to put him in a class below is pretty insulting. And by the way, Brenner ever came close to 46 points in a season.

So.. Uconn this weekend. I haven't paid much attention to them this season despite this being their last season in the AHA. Is there anything we should be looking out for? Star goalie or players?

Chris Lerch wrote about their goaltending earlier in the week. They have been rotating goalies since Christmas Break when Bartus had some academic issues. It also appears the Huskies are having some issues with consistency; playing better in the 1st game of a 2 game series.

That's because it's not their last season in the AHA. Next season is.

Watching all of the teams home games over the last two years of his career made it pretty evident to me that during those years Favot and Brenner were simply the better hockey players. Burt ended up a healthy scratch at least once in each of never came close to the promise he showed during his playoff run. Favot and Brenner were also much better in their own end.

It's not a knock on Burt to say that he wasn't at the same level as the two best players skaters the Tigers had during the 2010-11 season. But the fact is when Burt was handed the reins of the offense after Favot and Brenner graduated, both he and the RIT offense as a whole struggled.

Anyway, my TW guide isn't showing this game on TV...is it on one of the overflow channel?

D'oh, it's Notre Dame that's next year.

That's because it's not their last season in the AHA. Next season is.

Which means because of TW's horrible system I have to start recording at 5:45 because the guide doesn't show it

I also feel like I should clarify regarding the Favot/Brenner/Burt debate that I actually think Favot is a tier above either Brenner or Burt and should have, in my view, been nominated. I feel like his playmaking was criminally underrated around college hockey. If you take out his freshmen year, when he didn't have a very big role at all (with Lambert and Smith still at the school), Favot scored 11 more points than he had games played. That's phenomenal production.

This game is just.. boring to watch. Seems slow, RIT isn't doing anything with the puck, not playing physical enough. Also, Ruby? Come on.

Tough loss... do you think Watson will get the start tomorrow night?

Ruby didn't play badly at all. Two of those goals were goals that nobody would have made the save on. Great positioning by UConn and no net presence by RIT. I would say it was Ruby's best game this year (maybe not saying much)

The game was pretty boring though, didn't seem like RIT had any energy.

Tough loss... do you think Watson will get the start tomorrow night?

I'm fairly sure the weekend was always going to be a Ruby/Watson split, but given the loss tonight it seems all but assured. Even though Ruby played well, Watson is our starter. He rode the pine last night for having a bad game Saturday, but I don't think it's a long term thing.

It looks like Favot isn't playing this year anywhere...? Is that right?

If I'm not mistaken, he retired from hockey last year.

Not to be that guy, but Burt is still playing professionally here in the States, and despite injury is actually putting up some good numbers. 23 points in 36 GP.

Brenner has played 34 ECHL games and has 22 points, so....there's that.
