>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Much better result tonight.

Does anybody know what it will take for the Tigers to get 4th?

Sweep Canisius, Have Mercyhurst and Robert Morris either split or tie both games next weekend, Holy Cross needs to only win 1 of 3 against Sacred Heart and Army who they play twice.

This isn't accurate at all. First of all, RIT has the tiebreaker over Mercyhurst, so RIT actually doesn't need Mercyhurst to lose/tie any games next weekend.

IF RIT SWEEPS, TWO OF THE FOLLOWING THREE THINGS WILL HAVE TO HAPPEN:
- UConn drops 2 or more points to Sacred Heart.
- Robert Morris drops at least 2 points to Mercyhurst
- Holy Cross drops 4 or more points over their last 3 games.

*****If Robert Morris drops exactly 1 point to Mercyhurst, then depending on goal differential, UConn may have to drop 3 points instead of 2.

Also worth noting is that RIT could still have to go on the road in the first round if they are swept by Canisius and Bentley takes 3 or 4 points against AIC. This would actually see them travel to Canisius for the 1st round.

Frankly, I don't see the bye happening at this point. I'll be happy if RIT can secure the 5th spot with Niagara, Air Force, and Holy Cross the likely 1-2-3 right now. If UConn ends up stealing 3rd, I'd be fine (almost happier) with 6th, too.

So are the chances of them being home for the first round good? I am gonna be in Rochester march 8,9,10 and t would be awesome to catch a game. Do they have tix on sale or will they usually announce on the hockey page?

I wouldn't take a bet either way on that one. I think this team is fully capable of sweeping, or being swept by, Canisius. But I think you have a reasonable (better 50%) chance of seeing hockey in Rochester that weekend. (FWIW)

Always nice to see a win against AFA. I really liked seeing the low numbers of penalties on both sides (despite last night's rough start) this weekend. Over the years, I was getting used to seeing RIT "take" a lot of penalties against the Falcons. These games were more enjoyable to watch.

While the odds of a first-round bye are probably slim, I bet none of the top four would be relishing the chance to host RIT the following week (should the Tigers advance). While still a little inconsistent, RIT could win two series in a row to get to BCA and then anything can happen.

I like the Tigers' chances in any three-game series. Not so much in a one-and-done.

The Dead Hawaiians! Still play at all Scott?

Wow, the Dead Hawaiians is a blast from the past. I am not sure if they are playing anymore or not. I had to retire from men's league hockey a few years ago as the old body finally gave out. I heard a rumor that some of the old original DH guys might have restarted the team but am really not sure.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I think it's going to be a matter of matchups. I think RIT being 8th would be tough since that would probably draw Niagara. I think avoiding Air Force in the 2nd round would be desirable as well. Being able to get Holy Cross or UConn is preferable.

I agree. I'd be pretty pessimistic with a road series against a superior squad in Niagara or one where we have to go down to Colorado and win two games. When was the last time we won one down there?

RIT's last win at Air Force was 12/6/2008. Andrew Favot got the game winner with 38 seconds left in overtime.

Also, RIT has never won at Dwyer if I am not mistaken.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Another side note - for those who keep track of the various "belts" - RIT now owns the AHA belt. For the uninitiated, the "belt" is contested every game for the holder. Win or tie, the best stays with them. Lose, and the belt goes to the other team. Air Force was the prior holder of the AHA belt.

As a side note - RIT is still the only AHA team ever to hold "THE BELT" - and they had it twice. Both times, they lost it the next game.

RIT has never beaten Niagara at Dwyer. But ... to be technical ... the Tigers have won there once. They beat Mercyhurst 3-0 on 3/6/98 in the ECAC West semifinal before losing to Niagara, 5-2 the next night. Niagara beat Canisius in the other semifinal. Funny to see all four in AHA now.

So either RIT is way overdue at both places ... or RIT is significantly worse than AFA and NU for all these years????

Personally, I think it is more the former and less the latter. I certainly wouldn't expect a series win at either of those places, but I'm not willing to rule it out either (e.g. look at SHU vs. Bentley this weekend ... one never knows).

Hard to say. Could all just be a mental thing. We've tied Niagara a fair amount in recent years, including twice this year (once at Dwyer) and we beat them at the "neutral" BCA when it really counted last year. There's no question Niagara is the better team this year, just look at the standings. However, just because a team struggles in a particular venue doesn't mean they are the worse team year in and year out.

The Air Force games are always close out there as well. This year, RIT's loss was in OT.
