>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

"Wow." - said as miserably as possible. That was exactly what I said when RIT crapped the bed in its final game against Elmira. What was it, four goals in the last three minutes and overtime? THAT was a fun broadcast. "We lost. Goodnight".

On the Bentley thread they are picking JAR moments. I added one of my own. Tomorrow will be the 6th anniversary. Where's what I posted:

I have a JAR moment - Friday, Feb 23, 2007. In its first year in the AHA and ineligible for the postseason, RIT incredibly wins the regular season title, closing it out with a 3-0 win over Bentley. RIT fans had shown up in numbers and made a championship banner for the team. In a very classy move, Bentley coach Ryan Soderquist let the Tigers have a few minutes on the ice after the game to take pictures, etc.

The Falcons got what they wanted the next night, which was two points to avoid the 8th-9th play-in game. They beat the Tigers 7-6. It was the first collegiate start for RIT's third string goalie, a freshman. He allowed all seven goals. His name? Jared DeMichiel.

One thing I didn't add is that in that 7-6 loss RIT also played a defenseman named Steve Coon who rarely saw action (payed 5 games in two years). He was -4 in the game. Poor Matt Harris was partnered with him and I can still remember how ****ed he was. Coon transferred to Norwich and had two great years of 20+ points, including a national championship his senior year, the same year the Tigers went to Detroit.

Ed, Per your description. I am disliked in all 12. Maybe there will be a chair for me tonight?

Much to the chagrin of ... drum roll ... our friends at Canisius, who ended up in the play-in game.

I think so. It may need to be dusted off. :)

And Dave Smith was ****ed that RIT "tanked" the game. And Canisius lost the play-in game.

BTW, this is probably the first time that Chris and I have managed to have conversations going on here, on Facebook and on Twitter simultaneously. And to think that I used to make fun of people like that.

Recalling Steve Coon made me think of another seldom used defenseman the year before: Dan Malloy, the son of the current governor of Connecticut. Played three games in RIT's first D-I season and went back to the USHL. Never hooked up with another college team.

With these names, I present Darren Olson. Played 20 games one year for RIT and scored 1 goal. That goal was the game winner in the St. Lawrence win where Guimond stood on his head to win 3-2. According to hockeydb, he never played organized hockey after that year.

That would be a great trivia stumper!

And that's as it should be! I'm concerned you guys won't have anything to talk about tonight during the game breaks

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

For 2 periods, everything was going right for RIT. Not only were they winning, the teams they needed to lose were losing. By the end of the night, not only did RIT lose, but teams they needed to lose at least got a point. They NEED to get points out of tonight to have a chance at a bye.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

What a disappointing game. The third period was disastrous. Mental mistakes and less than hard work. Ruby should have had the puck on the second AF goal but misplayed it. And it appeared like Ruby was more worried about losing his stick than making saves on the third AF goal. Not to mention that everyone else on the ice couldn't make a clearing play. Colavecchia's pass to nobody leading to the 4th AF goal. I won't even get into the 5th AF goal where RIT was out hustled in their own end.
