Why would they need any more? They already have the full 34 NCAA games plus 3 exhibitions. Isn't that enough?

The NCAA exemption allows for 4 games on the Canadian trip - why not take full advantage of it?

Former Tiger update: Bobby Raymond is going to the Kelly Cup Finals with the Florida Everblades. They'll face the Las Vegas Wranglers next week(5/14 for game 1). He won the Calder Cup with the Binghamton Senators last year. Good luck to him!

Because the following week the Tigers resume the regular season (1/4, 1/5 @ StLU) and the previous week nobody plays (12/21, 12/22). Even if they wanted to play 39 games, there would be nowhere to put them.
Plus, they already have 3 games against Canadian teams on the schedule. Does the exemption allow for 4 games total, or 4 road games?

Aside from all that, I personally don't understand a trip all the way to BC for two completely meaningless contests. Maybe it is related somehow to how much recruiting the Tigers do out there.

I think it is twofold. Part of it will be for the recruiting. It would help efforts there to play and show potential recruits what RIT is about. The other reason is that RIT will be fielding a young team next year, and this will be a great way to get some of the freshman game experience.

The exemption actually allows for 10 games on the trip. Bylaw 17.28.1.6 is the authority.

Thanks, I don't know why I thought it was 4...

At least all the home games aren't concentrated at the very start of things. However, the lack of many back to back home weekends is a little disappointing.

Great that senior night is against Canisius, though.

The game experience is a valid point for playing Canadian exhibitions in general, not flying to Vancouver to do it. I'd t hink that they could find game experience in Ontario somewhere, no?

Although that bylaw is only applicable in a certain manner. Bylaw 17.28.1.6 is written to accomodate for summer vacation international "tours" of up to 10 contests (or 3 football games), and can only be used during summer break or other academic year vacation time periods... Meaning RIT could not use it for more than 4 games anyhow since there are only two weekends available during Christmas break (third weekend is the StL series), one of which is the weekend off for Christmas.

What's the big deal? Does it really matter where the exhibition is being played? Do you have something against western Canada? Why do you hate Canada?? ;)

Ontario is still in Canada, isn't it ;)
I have no hate for Canada. I was just expressing my curiosity why they would make such a long (and expensive) trip for exhibition games. I'd say the same if they were going to Southern California or Mexico. It's just that they rarely make more than one long trip in a regular season, but it is ususally for games that count. Personally, I don't care. It doesn't impact my life at all. Just wondering aloud.

Who said you could only play two games in a week? There are plenty of schools that will play more than that, even in a two-week period.

The weekends shouldn't matter for the amount of games. Its during school break. The lady tigers played 4 games in 5 nights this year during Thanksgiving. It seemed to help them. Hopefully this trip brings the same success to the guys.

I don't know about "plenty". It is pretty rare in D-I Men's. Yes there are some weekday games played along with and in between 2-game weekends, but not a whole lot, even during vacation times. Playing 4 or more games in a week means finding opponents that are willing to have a weekday home game during school break... i.e. in front of virtually nobody. Even in Canada, I would think that would be a tough sell ;)

Remember that Canadian college teams play 3 games in a week normally. If they do any weekday ones, there's your 4th.

Heard (sort of, half asleep) John Ditulio on the radio this AM. He talked to Jim Watters and an architect out of Toronto (currently doing MSG renovation) has been selected for the arena. Location not 100% set, shovels in the ground in Oct., ready for 2014 season. Couldn't find any written news on this, but should be out soon.
