PairWise is not designed to rate teams but to rank them in terms of NCAA playoff criteria. It's basically useless until the end of the season. If it were up to me, we wouldn't publish it until Feb. 1. However, because a distant competitor to USCHO likes to publish it early, we publish it from the beginning of the season so that other publications will link to ours.

Hey speaking of what your distant competitors do, any talk about coming up with an USCHO app?

I'm not allowed to divulge that information. But it will be sweet. :)

Just don't make it too complicated or fancy. Simplistic is the way to go. Mimic your competitor's! ;)

The plan is for two things: first, a mobile app with a simple interface and specific content; second, a full-blown mobile/tablet version of the entire site. There's a third very cool thing in the works also which I can't give away. I'm very excited about that one.

I assume that's the iOS version of the college hockey video game! ;)

Live scores and game stats please.

It's odd to read that a guy who was the third-string Olympian for the U.S. two years ago has flown under the radar. =)

Powers &8^]
We're probably two of the five people that remember that fact. With Tim Thomas and Ryan Miller on the squad, I don't think anyone was paying attention to who was playing doorman at the other end of the bench. I wasn't claiming he was completely unknown, just that many on the East coast may have been slightly surprised to look up and find out how good this guy has become while playing in NHL no-man's land.

Personally, I think that the Flyers should sign Madolora to back up Bryz. It couldn't get any worse..

I heard it was tough to get a goalie this year, because he basically knew he would be sitting 3rd behind Ruby and Watson.

Doesn't surprise me. Ruby and Watson are going to duke it out for the next 2 years as the starters and then Ruby will probably be handed it his senior year. I don't envy MacLean sitting behind them. However, there is a possibility he does turn out to be really good.

The thing is that it's not necessarily a given that he is going to be the 3rd string goalie. I expect that Coach Wilson will have an open competition during camp and if MacLean happens to win, he will start.

On another note Heisenberg is reporting we also got another d-man today, alexandre Perron-Fontaine, that puts us at 10 guys for next year replacing 8 graduating seniors.

The scoreboard is good, but I think the rest is pretty cheap, make it better!

I've always wondered why we felt the need to carry 3 goalies year by year. If a 3rd one falls in our lap, okay, but why bother recruiting another freshmen when we already have two extremely highly touted prospects? Pro teams don't dress 3 goalies per game ever, and the likelihood of needing 3 in a season is pretty minuscule.

This new guy doesn't seem like he has the stats to compare on paper to Watson/Ruby, and you know that (even though Wilson won't say it) the depth chart goes Watson-Ruby-Newguy in that order.

Based off smallish sample sizes from last year, Watson is the definite favorite right now but Ruby has potential.

The rules require you to have two goalies dressed. If a goaltender gets injured, you need to have someone else available as a backup. RIT has dressed a defenseman as a backup goaltender once in the Wilson era (bonus points if you can name him) and back in the D-III days before Wilson, dressed a goalie who was injured in such a way that he could not have played. You really should have three on the roster.
