Me too. Maybe it's because I am older and none of that development was there when I was but that location seem like a odd spot for a new arena. The back side of campus just seems wrong to me.

I'm with you. Also, I imagine traffic on the back side of campus is going to be an issue.

I was thinking about traffic too. When I was last a campus this spring, I parked in U-lot, and even on a Saturday afternoon traffic doesn't flow the best there. Then add a few hundred cars trying to get around that crappy pattern. Do I think it will keep tons of people away from attending hockey games? No, but why put a brand new (and hopefully amazing) new arena for the premier sport at RIT on the back of campus? I just don't get it. I really hoping there is a **** good reason for it and I am missing it. The more I think about this location the more disappointed I become. Oh well.

Traffic out of S lot would not have been much better I don't think, and the arena would still be on the back of campus at that location. I think they should have put it where N lot is, nice and easy access there with no real parking lot disturbance.

N Lot sounds good to me...There are some sort of fields there, but that's not difficult to move... http://www.cis.rit.edu/people/faculty/easton/images/RIT_map.jpg

Especially since they aren't really fields, just a huge grassy area. Only one or two "fields" would be disturbed. They aren't used often anyway.

They are probably restricted by wetlands requirements and putting it over already paved real estate is the only option.

As far as parking, it's just a short hike over from F and D lots so they can still be utilized.

I wonder if the southern part of U lot will be turned into a parking garage eventually. There's been talk of one on campus for a while and that is a pretty central location (and it would serve the arena). The release did say the parking lost to the arena would be replaced.

It's gotta go somewhere. A parking garage makes the most sense. I don't know where else they could really expand lot style parking. This will be weird for things like the tennis courts. Maybe those will be eliminated as well? Seems weird to have them sitting in the arena's shadow.

I don't see the tennis courts going anywhere as we have men and women's tennis teams.

Well, what I mean is move those courts elsewhere.

Anyone know anything about Jeff Smith surgery?

Looks like when Woody Hudson decommitted from RIT he opted for a return to Indiana of the USHL for the '12-'13 season. Per Heisenberg he will be heading to Cornell in 2013. I wish him luck, but would have loved to have seen him in a Tigers jersey.

A commitment you can walk away from is hardly a commitment at all. =)

Not to mention a team that hasn't had success against RIT lately.

Since it's late June ... I'm thinking it's time for someone to start the offseason thread.
