>>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

UND would be a huge upset. But I do feel MU, OSU, SYR teams that lost quite a bit could be upset. RIT returns all their scoring and if they have good goalies 4-5 wins are very possible

I agree. This team knows how to win, and obviously has talented players that are well coached. They should be competitive in most games, and could well steal a few against the established programs.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

The most accurate reflection of how they do in next year's transition will be their record against true D-1 teams. Look at Syracuse's first year at this level (2009). They had a top D-1 coach, something like 8 D-1 transfers and were 2-14-3 against NCAA D-1 teams.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

I think RIT will be better than many established D1 teams. It's like that in all levels of hockey. Top A teams beat bottom AA teams, top AA teams beat bottom AAA teams etc. The top half of RIT certainly belong in D1, the only question is the depth, but many other D1 teams don't have great depth. Also RIT have the advantage of knowing how to win. They aren't used to losing, whereas weaker D1 teams (not including Lindenwood and Penn State in this) are used to losing.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

Time will tell. Colgate was 15-7-3 against D-3 teams in 2001. In their first D-1 year in 2002 they were 6-20-2 against D-1 teams. Vermont was 14-6-2 against D-3 teams in 2001 and 0-27-2 against D-1 teams in 2002. There are always a number of D-1 level players on the good D-3 teams, but the overall difference between D-1 and D-3 is significant. RPI was a fairly strong D-3 team in the last few years before it completed its jump to D-1 but their change took several years and therefore did not seem as drastic.

You're talking about D3 teams in 2001. I feel talent is much improved from 2001. Closer gap. Plus those teams went into stronger conferences. I do feel RIT will fare much better than PSU next year. I'm a OSU wcha fan so I hope you're right. Just think they picked a good time to jump and might suprise.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

I agree that the talent has improved but am not sure whether the gap between D-1 and D-3 has shrunk significantly. Perhaps it has. I was not thinking about conference play as much as I was wondering how they will do against what I would consider "real" D-1 teams (including Mercyhurst, Syracuse and Robert Morris from their new league). by the way, the Syracuse example was from 2009 and the RPI example covered a 6 season transition from 2002 through 2007.

Sorry Penpa,

No disrespect. Just seems that a team with 30 player is a coach/team that doesn't know what they have. RIT knows what they have and added. But yes anything can happen. And hey PSU is basically a big ten team right :) I'll root for them.

I'm sure the first season attendance will be good regardless, but I'm concerned of the long term impact of paid admission on attendance numbers.

I minimal admission cost won't significantly change attendance it they continue to win.

Attendance was never great to begin with (other than heavily promoted games). I think that it will stay the same or maybe improve with good (well-known) competition, but I don't think they will get away with charging Men's prices...

I seriously doubt that the athletic department is thinking of charging anything close to the men's admission price. I would guess that it will be a nominal fee like somewhere in the $5 range tops.

Isn't it nice seeing the Tiger logo on the front page of USCHO all summer? =)

Chamberlain looked outstanding when I watched her this weekend at Rush Super Series. RIT may steal some games with her in net.

She's good. quite good. Got to get one or two on her early to shake her confidence if you're going to beat her.

The only time I've seen her confidence shaken was the 2011 NCAA title game; without the nerves of playing for the championship on home ice, I think she'll be fine even if a team does sneak one in early.

It's only happened 3 times in two years. 35-3-3 record for the sophomore goalie.
And I think you'll see a difference in the team (in a good way) that they have less pressure to win every game.
Some may find it easier to just go out and play when they have very little expectations of winning.

I think they still win their fair share of games next year and even beat a couple of the more established teams that under estimate them.
This team knows how to win and has seen its share of big games. I can't wait for the season to start.
