>>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

They said the schools voted this morning - I suspect it got bumped up due to the sad news out of Niagara yesterday.

He said they voted Feb. 22. Or did I miss something?

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

And according to DeGregorio RIT is eligible for the CHA playoffs. Unless I misheard.

Yes, this was approved on Feb.22.

And yes, full schedule and playoff eligibility. CHA chose to waive the requirement, and it secures CHA the number of 6 teams required for an autobid, since RIT is considered a full member of CHA. RIT would not be eligible for the NCAA tournament for 2 years.

League will not be eligible for NCAA auto bid unitl 2014-2015 season.

How does RPI do it then? They are a D3 school, but offer scholarships for both the men and women's hockey programs?

As someone else already indicated, they were grandfathered in. Pretty sure both SLU and Clarkson fall in the same category as RPI. IIRC RPI was the last school to make that move up around 2005.

I have a question and I appologize if it's already been addressed, but is RIT eligible to give scholarships next year, or only beginning the year they actually play DI, 2014-2015? And, if this has been common knowledge for a year or two, was this used as a recruiting tool for the coaches, promising scholarships to incoming freshman in a year or two.

They are not allowed to give scholarships at all. Not now, not when they move to D1.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

So what happens if a spot opens up in the ECAC during the summer when HEA decides on its 12th member, does RIT pull a TCU and leave the CHA before ever playing in it or after one year or do they let the chance to get into the ECAC for both the men and women pass? I'm guessing that ECAC would want a school with both a men's and women's team to replace anyone they would lose to keep the same setup they have now.

No team will leave the ECAC until the 13-14 season. That's because Notre Dame (and anyone accompanying them, if there is such a team) is joining the HEA for the 13-14 season.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

Ok, thanks for the clarification, I did not know that. So Lindenwood would not be able to give scholarships either? But Penn State would?

I think Lindenwood, being a DII school, can. Penn State will be able to.

Lindenwood is DII, so there is no such restriction on them. The rule is a DIII rule, not an NCAA rule, so it has no bearing on DII schools. Technically Lindenwood is not even a "play-up" like the men's DII schools, since women's hockey is not Division I, but rather "National Collegiate" (and thus falls under the jurisdiction of both DII and DI)
