Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

Hah! Notice I said "high level" LEED ... Perhaps I should have been more explicit, but I meant Platinum (or at least Gold). I couldn't find a level mentioned for the Bowdoin arena, so I assume it's the lowest. Cool nonetheless, but I think RIT has stated that no building would be built on campus that doesn't meet those minimum requirements. If I'm not mistaken, the new USC at RIT is the only LEED-Platinum building on a college campus (or at least was the first) ... that's the kind of stuff I was talking about.

Regardless, good for Bowdoin ... we'll have to shoot for the first LEED-Platinum ice arena (which, as I said, might not be feasible).

Ahh, okay. Yes, that is a different story. Well, good luck with that (although I'm pretty sure if there's a school that can come up with a way to do it, it's RIT).

Go Tigers!

:)

IMHO, I think Quinnipiac’s new arena is a good model of what we should be shooting for.

Arena Fit for Quinnipiac’s Ambition

I actually hate that arena. RIT should steer away from that except the part of individual seating.

There is no standing room. Also it looks like a very cold Arena...

I would like to see RIT have a 4,000 seat bowl with standing room all around it. I would then like to see on one side an upper deck possibly with 1,000 seats with boxs. Quinnipiacs does not look like it would have an intimidating feel to it and that s what RITs fans are known for!

GO TIGERS!

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

My main stipulation for a new arena is that it needs to be designed so you feel like the fans are right on top of you. I've been banging the drum on a design similar to Northeastern's Matthews Arena.

If we're supposed to be a tough arena to play in, it needs to stay that way.

Exactly!!!! Right on the money!

Las Vegas Hilton Odds to win NCAA Frozen Final:

Miami of Ohio Redhawks 7-2.
Wisconsin Badgers 5-1.
Boston College Eagles 6-1.
RIT Tigers 100-1.

...has potential to make some Tiger fan happy in more ways than one.

If it makes anyone feel any better we already overcame some pretty tough odds...
Denver Pioneers 4-1.
New Hampshire Wildcats 30-1.

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood ... and besides, I NEVER slice.

Oops, wrong forum. Just some interesting probability. RIT's chances now of taking the championship (100:1) are better than the chances a couple weeks ago of making the Frozen Four (4 x 30 = 120:1). So as they say ... "you mean, there is a chance?"

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

I think we would see a LOT more fans if games were free for students. I know plenty of students who go to 1 or 2 games a year but don't want to pay for every game. A lot of the big schools have free tickets for their students at large sporting events, I don't see why RIT can't do the same for hockey (especially when we have a new arena).

We sell out most of our games when school is in session so I don't know how many more fans we would see? ;)

Men's Hockey is one of the few sports RIT actually charges anyone for - and tickets are MUCH cheaper than they are at the big schools.

Be careful what you wish for with free tickets - it can dampen the atmosphere if you get too many casual non-hockey fans who are just there to socialize or otherwise see and be seen.

I think they'll probably raise the ticket prices for students when we get a new arena. $5 is really cheap.

Anyways...we have at least 1 more game left in the season. Lets leave the new arena, ticket price, etc discussions for after the season is over.

We have enough of that already

I think the stats I grabbed were from before the tournament started.

Yeah season tickets (including BCA games) are only 65 can't really beat that :)

Yeah, I'm looking at you, BC. I don't know if or what they charge the students at their games, but whatever it is it isn't enough.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

I've heard it said by a few professors before that getting a building paid for is relatively easy. There are plenty of people willing to pay to get their name on a building. The building itself can be darn close to free for the school.

Paying for that building's maintenance long term... now that's tough. It's easy to get a name for a building, but you'll never see the "Tom Golisano Janitorial Fund". Imagine what it costs to run the chiller alone... now we're talking about two.

Those numbers don't mean what you think they mean. Denver was 4:1 to win the national championship; UNH 30:1. Those weren't our odds to win the individual games against those teams. =)

Also, our 100:1 odds were as of the start of the tournament, so the number should be much lower now that there are only four teams left.

P.S. If you're a statistics professor and I'm way off base here, I apologize profusely!

RIT has a 31% chance of beating Wisconsin, and a 10% chance of winning the championship. I will take those odds any day. I just wish I remembered what they were to beat denver and UNH :/

Not a stats Prof., but pretty darn good at stats. I misunderstood the original post. I thought they were odds (in Vegas $$ terms, of course) of RIT winning each of the first two games and then the 100:1 being winning the next two combined. I knew I was on thin ice anyway.

No worries...

I take a look at the box after every home game and most of the time we are close... but we are usually around the 1,800-1,900 mark. Its usually the AFA games and the college sponsered nights that get sold out.

The college nights are like little tests of the atmosphere if we were to give free tickets to students, with the extra hundred or so tickets going out to students for free. plus I think it would make competition for the corner crew seats even better.

A dream of mine for the new arena, would be to see the corner crew wrap around and take up both corners :D There would be no escape

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

That RIT was averaging that amount is still good. However, because they are not considered "sellouts", it does make it a little more diffocult to convince TPTB that a new rink is necessary.

One thought I overheard is perhaps the tickets should be divided between the "seats" and SRO. Selling the "seats" would be a sellout. That number of sellouts would look more impressive and help get a new arena.

I also think RIT will be capitalizing on being in the Frozen Four when they market season tickets next year - which will increase sales.

I agree. To us older folks and families, once those 1600 seats are filled (or reserved:rolleyes: ) it's a sellout and the game's no fun. That's the big problem. When I'm alone, I actually do like to stand at the rail, but if my family is along, seats are a must and it either means coming extra early and making it that much longer for the kids, or not bothering and I end up alone ... again!:o )

1600, or however many seats there are, should be considered the sellout since for many purposes, it is. I'd say that every game with over 1600 is evidence we need an arena that SEATS more. (Not to mention full-size ice.)

RIT does not have to worry about their past attendance performance. Facilities are generally considered too small when you are regularly at 80% of capacity. When you are regularly at or above 80%, which RIT games always are, you lose customers who don't want to fight the crowds or otherwise don't show up because of the risk of the event being sold out and not getting in or getting a good seat.

RIT has clearly established that a new rink is necessary.

Next season there almost certainly will be a huge push to sell season tickets. Advance sales trends are also a great indicator of what the future demand will be for tickets.
